Goodyear MTR's - on road manners ?
I am thinking of swapping my 'of the shelf' tyres for a more aggresive pattern. There seems to be no middle ground with this and so I have looked at The MTR's. I know a lot of you use these but what are the on road manners like - I have driven with BF Goodrich and they are fine, but have also driven a defender with mud tyres and the noise and ride were terrible. I don't need to conquer the world but will be in the mud a bit this winter....towing
There are a set on fleabay and I'll bid on them - says collection only but I'll cross that bridge.....D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

I've been running MTR's permanently for over a year now ...and they are excellent You will find that the road noise will be increased, but after a week it's almost a therapeutic hum Road holding properties are slightly below that of normal road tyres but you quickly adapt ...as for wear ...I have around 8-9mm left after 16k 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Similar for me, been runnig for 4500 miles & the hum is a nice sound to remind you that you can go almost anywhere on them
You need to slightly adapt your handling of the vehicle as it doesn't corner in the same way as the std's but it's nothing that should put you off.

I've been running MTR's for about 12000 miles. Initially I thought the road noise was too much. I swapped them back for a long journey down south and found that they were not as bad as I thought, so swapped them back when I returned and stopped being a woossy.
Handling is very good in the dry and competant in the wet if you remember you are piloting a 3t vehicle and not a 900kg sports car. Expect a bit understeer if you push on. Drive it within it's normal limits and its very good Drive it like you stole it and
I would not have a D3 without them now
Oh' and they are outstanding offroad as well

The only diference I find is that mileage is down by 2 mpg with MTRs. OK this is offset by longer tyre life but since shortage of tyres is not something I suffer from, I tend to swap the 17" Contis back on. Still when they are on, they are great on-road with just a bit of hum.

Just to echo the above, I used to swap wheels over for on and off road but it is such a pain of a job (without an air jack anyway) that I run on MTR's permanantly. Only thing that bugs me is the drone on motorways, the Pirelli Scorpions are much smoother but still prefer the fact that the car is always equipped with off-road rubber should I need it.2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

They are fine on the road....however I still swop back to the Synchrones if it is more than 2 weeks between off road forays....something to do with mpg more than anything else:roll:end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
Just put a set on mine and can echo most of the above, noise increased, grip in the dry is fine, in the wet it is ok now fuel consumption went up dramaticaly, average over 1000 miles is 25.9 with the 255/55 R19 GY MT/R and with the Conti Contact sport 275/40 R20 is 32.1mpg with the TDV8 RRS.

I cant compare the MTR's against standard rubber anymore. I have forgotten what standard rubber is like.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
