Where to go/ stay in Scotland in tintent?? |
|
Planning on taking the tintent to Scotland in October half term with Swmbo and the 4 kids (14, 11, 10 and 2 months) oh, and the dog!
Anybody got any recommendations on areas and/ or sites?
Don't want chavtastic facilities and not fussed about a bar either, but must have decent toilets and showers as SWMBO won't tolerate 'roughing it'
Don't want to go tooooo far north......
Cheers chaps

New England bay caravan club is nice and not too far. Good access to the beach as well. If the weather is good than its excellent but probably not so good if weather crap

Have recommended here to a few friends (Essex contingent arriving Sunday).... It's just a pitch,no facilities but lovely views and quiet.....5 minutes walk to Coldingham village and from there, another 10 to the beach and stunning adjoining coastline
Just over the border on the east coast....quiet and secluded but plenty outdoor stuff (walking, cycling etc) if that's what your after
CC Club website down but will link when I can....
Our community website is here, so you can check out the area

SWMBO doesn't do camping/tintents
But friends do
Try Blair Atholl camp site next to the castle
Also there are a few round St Andrews area but I think the Dunhill open golf is on in October. So will be busy area
Just a couple of suggestions better if you could define not too far north.
These are central ish

It's a tough question to answer as it depends what you want to see and how far and how you have to amuse the kids. If you want to guarantee good facilities, why not join the Caravan Club or Camping & Caravanning Club (or both for lots of choice) and use their sites. They vary from Club Sites with all faclities, often a small shop (no commercial site-type bars and restaurants) and good loos and showers to 'Certificated Localtions' which can be a field for five 'vans but often with a loo and shower and a hook-up. You get a comprehensive guide listing hundreds of sites and maps, showing locations which tell you what's in the area as well. You can join and plan your trip/s online as well as get a feel for what's on offer before you join. The insurance and rescue services both offer are good too. We were rescued by the Caravan Club 'Red Pennant' travel insurance service from southern France when I needed an emergency operation and they were brilliant, sending a driver for the outfit (even finding someone who had a Disco) and flying us home when I was able to leave. Well worth the exxpense. I wouldn't go abroad without it.
Considering your family, I'd probably go for a site near Edinburgh. Lots to do for everyone, use a 'Park & Ride' if possible to get to the centre. You won't see mountains until you are beyond Perth. Glorious coastal scenery (through the rain) up the west coast from Argyll north, but maybe too far? It's getting a bit cool and wet right now so be prepared. It IS colder than Englandshire.
Ed Make the most of this life, you may not have a Landy or skis in the next one.

The Caravan Club Site in Edinburgh is very good for access into the town. There is a bus stop right outside the site with regular buses, if that is your thing.

Try the caravan club site at Melrose, Euan's sit eon the coast or Crossburn Caravna site in Peebles and explore the Borders (4 hours towing from Oldham)....hills, valleys and coastline. Trossachs are not too far north and easy to access via M6/M74/A9 so you could check Killin sites. Blair Atholl castle site is also good or head out to Dumfries and Galloway for a change and explore the Galloway coast.
If you do come this far north can you bring the sun back please Club RLD spare wheel protection
Club RLD skid plate
Club its all black
Club D3 - it's gone
Club D4 - just arrived and still all black

Delighted to get some details of those too please, DSL.

Mortonhall Caravan Park Edinburgh.
Great place to stay on south side of Edinburgh if you wish to visit Edinburgh.
No slumming it, really good quality.
Buses directly into town.

You Guys really need to give some indication of distance into Scotland your planning on going!!,
if Aviemore is near where your heading then Grantown-on-Spey
http://caravanscotland.com/attractions.htm
the site has excellent facilities, free wifi on the super pitches, own water and waste points, super on site showers, piping hot water.
Grantown has excellent Co-op at good prices for stocking up, decent petrol station and excellent Chinese take away, plus couple of restaurants.
10 mins to Aviemore, 40 mins to Inverness, 20 mins to Nairn,
Spey railway nearby, Landmark woodland adventure centre 15 mins away
can only but recommend it! FFRR SC 4.2
Rejected!! RRS2
Fit TDV6 intercooler hoses
Fast Road intercooler
De-Cat pipe
D3 to B4 front end Upgrade
