I know its been written about before......and there seems to be a lot written on google and the likes but can any one offer any advice?
My wifes D3 which to date has been really quite well behaved decided just prior to Christmas (during our first cold morning) decide it would not start, after trying several times I towed it with my Navara and it started with in a few feet of dropping the clutch.
it was diagnosed as glow plug failure as it would start ok on temps above 1 degree.
It went into my local independent landy specialist for a looksie and they confirmed all 6 glow plugs were duff.
On attempting to remove them they have found all 6 seized, after a day of trying they got 3 out all on one bank of cylinders, but they wont attempt any further the other 3 for fear of snapping them off.
His advice was to stick with the 3 as it will fire up on those.........only the first frost we had it didn't 
So.....my questions are thus:
1/ is there any one in the Sussex area who can remove them?
2/ should it fore up in frost conditions on 3 (which the dealer said it should) in which case could the battery be on its way out causing it to crank a tad slower in the cold? I ask this as if I roll it backwards down my drive it starts bumping it in reverse with in a few feet.......
3/ I am marine engineer by trade and wondered if its a job I can do myself with the removal tool kits as seen on fleabay?

use the webasto to heat it up prior to launch?
id of though you could handle removal. usually a drill and a slide hammer does it.

access is so poor to the left ones.
by the time you have got things off you are 1/3 of the way to getting the head off.
Which is good, if one breaks, not so good if its in the middle of winter and working outside!
My tip, reverse up your drive  so you can roll it down your drive and bump start it!
and then look at changing them in March when warmer
(parking it appropriately to work in the passenger wheel arch if the head needs to come off)
and LR button on fob programmed to do the suspension up/down

I had the same happen to my D3 I did change the glow plugs but I purchased from bas the third button control unit to fire up the Wabasto which was brilliant as for the seized glow plugs I kept spraying mine with a freeing oil for three weeks and then had a go and I changed five of them as the high pressure fuel pump was in the way , but go for the timed heater controller and no waiting for the heater to warm up

They also sieze inside the head. So you can spray them with as much oil as you like, but it only has a
Partial effect

Well I must of been lucky when I changed mine then, my friend as seized glow plugs and his local Indy garage couldn’t get them out, I said if he brings it to me I’ll have ago, as I change a lot of glow plugs over the year on kubto engines and I,unlike some of my colleagues have never snapped one yet put they can bet so tight it’s frightening but I use a freeze easy penetration oil and Time and patience as worked out for me , but using the wabasto to warm the engine is the best way , I did only do mine as I had got fed up of looking at the glow plugs I had purchased and it took two years to build up the courage

it's not unusual for the tip of the glow plug to swell up and then drop off into the cylinder when you get the body to move and it's head off time................................ (guess how I know) Pete

we managed to get three changed so 50% better lol.......not going to risk doing it myself yet, going to park it for bumping if needed, and hope to get it through the colder weather, so far so good as we have had no frost. Might get brave when it warms up. PM me if you get a result at Botley
Has any one tried the much advertised company in London who claim to get the out in situ?

Ok hope this helps another set of glow plugs changed today on a kobota engine and they were as tight as when I changed on my D3 once again I used a freeze easy freeing spray a quarter drive 10mm socket and knuckle bar holding the pressure on whilst tapping with a hammer all three of the faulty ones are chzanged

Like I said, I'm hoping to get through winter and put it into Hutfields when the spring breaks. My brother's a mechanic in Fareham and he uses them - enough recommendation for me. I'll definitely be in touch when the fateful day comes and the car heads for Botley. Check this ongoing thread:

Chris at Hutfields was of the opinion that changing just the ones you can get out was false economy, all 6 need doing at the same time. I'm currently running BP fuel and 2 stroke oil which may help with the eventual removal. Keep me posted,

cheers for the link Sparky, funny enough I was thinking of bringing my spare space heater home from work, I often wondered if putting hot air around the intake would help......
replacing three was not the plan, it went in to have diagnosis and remedy, glow plugs x6 not working, but independent could only get three out after 2 days of trying, tbh they are quite good and previous jobs have been done quickly and efficiently and at a good price......just a bummer I ended up with a bill for just shy of 600 quid for glow plugs, front bushes and alignment 
Interseting that on other posts some have luck with cars starting on 2 or 3 glow plugs working yet mine wont......so beginning to suspect maybe hosing injector or two also.

Yeah I think DSL posted that his poor starting was diagnosed as a dodgy injector or two. You'll need someone with an IID tool (or similar??) to get the live feed values at tick over.
