My co director has been a converted landi( he owns a v8 guzzler disco) and has persuaded me as our next company car purchase to order 2 new 08 discoverys 3's HSE with a £2500 worth of accesories for each vechicle,a toatal order value of over £88k to which (wrongly) i thought would generate a keen response from my local dealers, who were going to be Stratstone, both Cardiff and Newport, Hunters-Inschape, Bristol and J V like of Brecon.
Ther responses in order was as follows.
Stratstone, Cardiff- 4 phone calls, 2 visits in person to the dealership, a reqeust for a test drive. There response Nothing.
Startstone, Newport, exactly the same as above but 6 phone calls, the last being the qeustion do you want to qoute for the car?. the response was, 'oh your the one who wants loads of extras!!! finished with, we I dont have to sell you a car do i !!!!!!!, absouloutley staggering.
Hunters -inschape, Bristol, competertive, helpfull but lacking in product knowledge.
J V Like, Brecon. We will let you have a demo for a long weekend so you can both try, Very competertive qoute, will pick car up form us annd re deliver when servicing and a response to every phone call and E mail within 30 minutes of being sent.
Guess who got the order, yep J V Like and the person who said use dealers who are out off town and long established is spot on.

Now that's the type of feedback any respecting dealer wants. But they only get it if they put the work in!

He does indeed, and it was through his recommendation that I too went there and bought a new Defender. My D3 is up for replacement next year and I will go there again, very helpful and nothing seems to bother them. As to Stratstone, I only use them for warranty D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

Had the same trouble with Hunters in Southampton who didn't seem interested in selling cars, ended up buying mine from Lookers in Essex and to be honest I couldn't fault them.

It was Lookers Hadleigh. To be fair I didn't actually visit the dealership. They bought the car to me in Southampton to look at and test drive and then delivered it to me once the deal was done. They did everything they promised to do, new tyres, full service, fixed scratch in door and a couple of minor trim parts were replaced at my request.
The delivery driver was a really pleasant chap, been with them for 20 years apparently. I even over paid by £1000 by mistake as I forgot about the credit card deposit I had initially made and they phoned me to tell and did a refund to my credit card. I would have realised a few days later, but it was nice that they phoned me to tell me.
The only complaint I could make (if I was forced to) is that the car had a smell of smoke in it after a few days as the cleaning product smell disappeared, but a bit of auto glym de-ordouriser sorted this out.
Even got a full tank of diesel included which I wasn't expecting.
