How should I get rid of this rust please?
I've had this vintage Royal Marines crest on the grille of my D4 for about 6 months now.
The bolts it came with seem to be rusting (at least the visible parts) spoiling the look.
It was a bug6er to fit in a manner where it can't be removed so I'd prefer to just treat the bolt heads with something that will treat the rust, not itself make a bigger mess and prevent future corrosion (at least for the next 6 months).
Suggestions for what to use please?Jim

Nothing much will stop them rusting successfully. ..... I would persevere and fit stainless steel screws/ nuts tbh. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

Only long lasting remedy is to replace the screws with 316 stainless steel, or maybe pop rivet them.
Rust treatments will rarely last and you'd have to remove the screws to get at it properly anyway. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

That will work too but the brass will discolour. Good quality stainless will not degrade or discolour, but I do not know what the badge material is made of. So there is always the risk of cathodic reaction whatever you use, unless it's the same material/quality as the badge.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
Let's face it, if someone really wants to take it, they'll damage the grille to do so, so little point using anything stronger than the grille.

As a quick fix that will last about 6 months or so try Hammerite?
It can be painted directly to rust and has got me out of a jam on many occasions in the black form.... not tried silver but it is available....

As mentioned above, 316 stainless, nylon washers, Nyloc nuts if it is bolted, also run some Teflon tape around the thread so different metals cannot touch.
