Heated Steering Wheels
What's involved in fitting a heated steering wheel to a car that currently has a non-heated wheel? Is it simply a case of finding a heated wheel for sale and swapping over?

Yes if you have got the heated clock spring, otherwise you will need one.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Have a search as loads of information on this forum but basically in addition to the new wheel you will need a new clock-spring as well.

It's the wiring that fits around the steering wheel hub that you connect the heating element to, but you may already have an heated one.
Take the airbag off, two minute job and check the connector with the one in the photo, if it's the same you have heated othwise you need one with the same number as what's hand written in the photo, you may need to turn the brightness up on your computer/tablet to see it better.

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

and if you search here there instructions on how to fit it.
You may be better off getting someone with experience to look at your clock spring to see if it is "heated steering wheel ready" than trying to fit yourself.

Sits under the steering wheel and provides rotary, electrical connectivity to the steering wheel.

Be careful - if your car is a 2010 you need to also ensure the wheel you get has the older type ECU and switch pack
Don't ask how I know

As GVW says, you need an ECU off a wheel from a pre MY2014 D4 or equivalent RRS - they are the ones without the white horn symbol on the switch pack. The wheel itself can be any age car but the ECU and switch pack have to be age correct.
For what it's worth, I have put one on my MY2010 GS & simply needed a heated clock spring plus correct year switch pack and wheel. No need to use any sort of computermabob thingy, just plug and play.
Have used it for the first time this week when we've had a couple of chilly mornings.D4 - Stornoway Grey

I've managed to source a heated wheel, and have been told that my car already has the clock spring I need, however I've just also been told that I need to buy both switches at Β£205 delivered which is a disappointment to say the lease!
With that in mind, how much is my original steering wheel with both switches worth? I really need to recuperate some funds as I didn't budget for Β£205 for switches!

The cruise control switch pack (left side of the wheel) does not need to be changed in my experience.
The right hand switch pack will need updating to the correct one for your model year (NOT the ones with the white painted horn symbols on for a 2010MY car).
You will also need to make sure that you have the correct heated wheel ECU for the model year too (the one that says MY2014 will not work on a 2010MY car).
I'd also double check that you actually have a heated clock spring - my 2010MY car didn't have one but did have the power connection for it ready to 'plug and play'.
I bought all the switch packs & correct ECU from specialist breakers.
As to what your existing switch packs are worth, EBAY can be your friend D4 - Stornoway Grey

I too have used my heated wheel several mornings over the last week - I suffer from Raynaud's syndrome and a heated steering wheel is really essential.
I would have another "daily driver" without a heated steering wheel.

Hi, thanks for your post - apparently I'll need both switch packs as they're only available in gloss black so the current one on my MY2010 won't match, hence the need to buy two? I suppose I could wait for a second hand heated switch that matches but that could take a while, and the reason I need the heated wheel is that I've got carpal tunnel syndrome and apparently the heated wheel will help, I do a fair amount of miles in the car so need a solution ASAP!
I've been told that according to my VIN number my car has the heated clock spring, so fingers crossed that's right! I didn't think to check what year the wheel is, I'll ask, again fingers crossed it's from a 2010 like mine!
