Hi guys, thanks for all the replies. Yes, my old FFRR had the Brembo's - which is perhaps why the wheels fitted that and not the D3. I was thinking about the Brembo upgrade for the D3 that is shown in LRO anyway, so maybe this is the way to go if I am determined to use these wheels (which I am). 
Rogue's pic shows exactly where the wheel was fouling. 
I don't fancy spacers as I had heard of cars getting hub problems from using them - perhaps an old myth!
Anyway, thanks for all the help - I will now book the car (van) in to get them Brembo's fitted. If nothing else, at least it might stop someone from wasting their time buying some FFRR S/C wheels thinking that they'll go straight on, because take it from me - they won't!
