If it’s a metal sump it can still leak in at least two ways. The welded seams on some have been done in a hurry or QC was forgotten... one of the Indys here said they had had 3 manufactured by a well known company that starts with a T that started leaking from one of the seams. The other place they tend to leak is from the gasket.

The sump looks OK and if it is leaking it's coming from the gasket I think, but it might be ATF dripping down from the plug....

you could probably do this yourself.


new sleeve usually requires hamming in with a bit of wood as the seals are so tight.



Does the metal sump have a drain plug in the bottom. (some of the BMW ones have a weird level plug, due to limited access around the side)

I think you're right Pete, that this job is DIYable. To be honest though I just don't fancy it. Rolling Eyes

Even if this is the easiest car I've ever had to get underneath! Very Happy

The Terrafirma sumps have the same weird plug, too.
