Gearbox issue? [guessing] |
|
Right, so I’ve just had to pull the car over on a dual carriageway and “reset” it. Basically the car was driving like it was stuck in third gear [auto]. No power on pulling away, very high revs at a higher speed and no sound or feeling that the gears were changing either up or down whilst accelerating and decelerating. There was an F appearing and disappearing on the gear display on the dash.
Due to where I live and the time of year, weather etc we use the GGS special program, low ratio, and off-road suspension height regularly. It almost felt like it was “stuck” in GGS or something.
Thankfully resetting the car , cycling the special programs, gear ratios etc sorted it.
Any ideas? Scared the crap out of me.

yeah sounds like you had an electric? problem with the gearbox. A fault code should have been stored.
When it can't rely on sensors/inputs etc. it puts it in 3rd so you can get home

If the brake peddle sensor is worn then it will stop The gearbox changing above 3rd.
Also check brake bulbs. No need to panic just yet. Bodsys Brake Bible

I don't seem to be getting notified when someone replies which is annoying, thanks to you both.
Yeah I'll get the codes read when I next have enough cash to go down to MMP with a big list!
In the mean time, the bulbs are ok, not sure about the pedal sensor, how do i check that? But since that day the check engine light is on permanantly.

If check engine light is on permanently, then probably a failed engine sensor

need the fault codes read.
Even a cheap generic reader may give you some clues, if you know anybody with one or an IID

In that case I'll add it to the list for when I go down to see Mike.

Where are you based?
There may be someone near you with an IID tool who can read the codes for you.
