Hi all
Has anyone purchased GAP through others that are not the dealer?
I am aware a lot of these types of things are not worth the money they are written on until they actually pay out.

I actually hassled my daughter to get GAP insurance as she paid way over the odds for a 2nd hand car from a trader before Christmas.
Good job too as a hit-and-run wrote it off. Insurance valued it at around £1000 less than she paid but the GAP insurance paid the difference with no quibbles at all.
Was through Arnold Clarke and £8.99/month

Superb customer service. Used them a lot but not claimed...
Dealers charge way too much for gap insurance...
Don’t get me started on paint protection, tyre insurance etc etc Robbing Visitor from fullfatrr.com

If you use the d3/4 Facebook group, someone on there had their 4 year old HSE LUX stolen before Christmas and their GAP insurance has just paid out to original invoice cost 2014 D4 XS

Worth trying https://www.gapinsurance.co.uk, been about for a good few years, and used them on seven cars over the years, appear to have good reviews and a good reputation, but fortunately not had to use them, but they have always been very helpful and fair when I have changed cars etc

I did a lot of research and settled on ALA.
I actually spoke to the Ops Director and he was very helpful.
I was lucky to find a 25% discount code at the time - so have a look around.
They are FCA regulated.
I noticed that if you go via TopCashback they are paying out 15.75% cash back at the moment.
My circumstances were, that I had NFU insurance for the first 2 years who replace the car as new in the event of total loss for the first 2 years.
Six months after that 2 years cover came to an end I took out an AlA Agreed Valuation Gap policy at £40k for 5 years cover.
So basically my logic is that in the event of a total loss I have secured my £40k capital for a total of 7 and 1/2 years.
Which for me is peace of mind.

Just remembered where I got the discount code from and it is still LIVE!!!
Go to money saving expert website and search for GAP insurance.
Use the special link on their site to ALS and code MSE25 to get 25% discount.

GAP insurance shouldn't be compared on price alone. There are various forms such as Back to Invoice, PCP, Finance, Top Up, Back to Invoice with Increase Cost of Replacement Car or Purchase price and Finance Combined.
Purchase the correct product for your needs and in the event of a total loss it can be invaluable.
But beware that if you don't select the correct policy you could be very disappointed when Insurers refuse to pay the claim

Totally agree, it’s not just price but the level of cover that’s most important.

Now is this not a new money making scheme from insurers !!!!!!
Wife picked her new (17 plate) car up on Thurs.
The insurance had a value of her car at £2 lower than what she paid and they wanted her to take Gap insurance out on that value.
Now when looking for her vehicle I had a good look around all the dealers (on web) for the same model and spec of car and reckon she got a good deal at the price she paid ..... yet insurers valued it at 2k less!!
I'm sure this is a new scam in the brewing. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
< ‘tis but a mere scratch …….. it’ll polish out.
