Full Size Spare PLUS Tow Bar?

Sorry to Martin for duplication of thread - but trying to establish if anyone has a D4 with a Full Sized Spare Wheel PLUS a Tow Bar (preferably the quick release type), as Dealer is suggesting that the tow bar bracket does not leave space for the full sized spare! (I know there was space on the D3!, but maybe the D4 is different) I think the quick release tow bar just goes into a built in slot anyway?

I still find it unbelievable that a full size spare is an extra on a £50k plus car!!! Unbelievable!! Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

I don't think the rear end of the facelifted D3 (some call it the D4) was any different from the 09MY D3 but I'm not speeking from experience, i.e. don't have one. Whistle

I find that hard to beleive Shocked

if you were towing a 3.5T trailer and got a puncture - towing with a skinny wheel on is just asking for trouble. Rolling Eyes

EDIT - is this thread not the same as this one : http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic42375.html?highlight= Confused

DiscoDunc - yes that was exactly my thoughts!

Really need help from someone with a D4 though to confirm if they are compatible (or even someone with the full size spare to confirm that the tow bar just plugs into a pre-fitted socket on the vehicle, in which case the solution is not to buy the optional tow bar but just buy it as a dealer fit accessory later!).

Sorry for the duplication of post (did flag it up at the first post though Thumbs Up ) but was as a result of suggestion that the original Thread heading was too vague & I couldn't see how to alter it! If a Mod wants to merge that's great.

Drop plate unit fits fine; quick release towbar won't be an issue at all. Dealer talking cobblers (though reference is made to 19" wheels, not 20" - but having just looked, I cannot see that this would make any difference).

Winger - many thanks, I knew there would be an expert on the site to help as usual! (the dealer claims that "the Tow Pack brackets on the Discovery 4 obstruct the Spare Wheel Housing") Shocked

I take it that your D4 has the full size spare + a tow bar? Very Happy Am I right in thinking that the socket/mount for the plug in tow bar is there on all the cars regardless of whether the tow bar is specified, and if you buy the accessory it just plugs into the socket? (obviously need the addition of wiring!)

Yes - full size spare.

The two tow bars both plug into the same socket, which is there regardless of whether you order either type of bar from new. The only difference, because of the drop plate, are the two arms for the non-removable towbar.

Thanks Winger - armed with that, if dealer does not want to check their info, I'll order the full sized spare & just get the tow bar fitted as an accessory later!

If you are inclined towards the removable bar, then you have no worries at all - regardless of wheel size.

Winger, yes a picture would really hammer the point home Thumbs Up - same dealer is also playing dim on the issue of the price of the adaptive headlight upgrade on the HSE Evil or Very Mad

There's times when I really think LR would have been better off had it been in bmw ownership for a bit longer as I've never come across such issues with any of the German quality manufacturer's dealers:shock:

When the dealer PDI's the car - get them to enable tobbar electrics. Shouldn't cost you anything - but will then work properly when you buy one later Thumbs Up

Try and order a tow bar from the Aussie dealers. All D4s here have a full size spare and are equiped with a removable tow bar if you request them.
