Fuel Issues (combined from serveral other posts)
So I have been getting great advice from a good few of you (especially PROFSR G) regarding my fuel issues but am almost at the end of my tether, so I thought I’d just put my issues in a single post here.
To cut a long story short: -
Initially I was getting the full works “F”, three amigos, suspension lowering etc and codes below ( I ]reckon most of the codes are cascaded from the p0003 one). At first it was very intermittent but was then doing it all the time.
Diesel V6 P0003 Fuel volume regulator control -circuit low
Auto gearbox U0155 Lost communication with instrument cluster control module
U2023 Fault received from external node
ABS C1A00 Control module
U0401 Invalid data received from ECM/PCM
IPack U0010 Medium speed CAN bus comms error
U0166 Lost comms with auxiliary heater control module
U0132 Lost comms with ride level control module
U0159 Lost comms with parking assist control module
B1A87 Battery disconnected.
Ride Level U0416 Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module.
All terrain U0401 Invalid data received from ECM/PCM
U0402 Invalid data received from TCM.
U0416 Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module.
U0421 Invalid data received from ride level control module.
BCM B1B56 Sliding roof module.
B1b70 Local interconnection network bus circuit 2
Vehicle Dyn C1A00 Control module
U0401 Invalid data received from ECM/PCM
I used Robbie’s LP fuel system guide and diagnosed at first the LPFP. This was replaced and LP system was then at 7psi, great. It would crank but not turn over. Following advice from PROFSR G I found that fuse 13E was blown. This I replaced and het presto car started. Great I thought, took it out for a spin but after 10 minutes I was getting the p0003 code and the suspension dropping etc continuously again and only just made it home. With p0003 relating to the FVCV I ordered a replacement and when I removed the HPFP found the harness to the valves was compromised both wires insulation worn away so either shorting to each other or to ground). I therefore repaired it, checked it was sound, replaced the FVCV and put it all back together, and…… NADA. No low pressure fuel again. The FVCV I was sent was slightly different but assured by the supplier that it was compatible. As that was the only thing I had replaced, not even touching the LP side I decided to strip it down and put the original FVCV back in as everything related to the p0003 code was now I believe due to the compromised harness. So it’s all back together and….again NADA. Cranks but no start, I can hear the LPFP running and there is fuel running to here (I disconnected the pipe and fuel flows to here)

but no pressure build at the Schrader valve.
What is frustrating is that after I replaced the LPFP I had it going, albeit with the p0003 code. When I have implemented the fix for the p0003 code I am back to square one with no low pressure.
Anyone have any other ideas on this before I torch it (Joking!)

A lot of those faults could be due to a low battery voltage. These cars require 12.3 to 12.5 volts to run properly.

yes they were partly that but I think cascaded errors as well. the only engine related one I am getting now is the p0191. i'll keep trying to prime today. Out of curiosity the VCV and PCV readings are 0%, is that correct for ignition but not started?

Just went and checked all wiring, fuses, voltages all ok. VCV and PCV on crank go up to 30% approximately each. There is fuel dribbling from the shrader valve but not reading any pressure and I cannot see any leaks. Andy chance that I have an airlock, thought it was not possible on these?

was normal around 14v but with priming and trying to start its now on chardge. i may just need to keep cycling it until it goes

Keep the charger on it permanently whilst you're trying to get it sorted. If you use the fuel pump relay bypass method I advised you of in other threads, you can run the lpfp without the ignition drawing additional power to other systems.
The VCV and PCV will not provide useable data until the engine fires!
It cannot be overstated the importance of keeping the battery power high whilst you diagnose this. Failure to do so will cause erroneous faults and leaving you chasing ghosts all over the place.
Charge it fully and keep it charged, bridge the fuel pump relay until you have a clear continuous stream of fuel at the shrader valve. (run the pump for a continuous 3 or 4 mins or longer) Make sure the plug is properly connected on the FRPS (though I suspect this code is battery voltage related)
Bare minimum battery voltage is around 12.4v during cranking/diagnosing this issue. Anything less is likely to pull the battery below the minimum threshold when you're cranking, and then the ghost faults will start to haunt you again!
Once you have the fuel at the schrader and a fully charged battery, go for a long crank 10 - 15 seconds and see if it will fire. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Progress, primed and primed and primed and finally got it started. Old codes gone, however now getting p0088 - Fuel Rail / system pressure too high, so the saga continues. Looking into this one now

Are there fault codes being logged in other modules besides the PCM?
If not, inspect the wiring to the FRPS just in case there's an issue like the PCV/VCV wiring had. Did you replace the fuel filter with a good quality OEM?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Yes there are other codes, likely to be cascaded ones from the fuel pressure one. I replaced the fuel filter in November with an aftermarket one but will get a good quality one ordered. It just seems strange that before when I had the original p0003 codes the fuel pressure was consistent as per my previous live data readings but now the pressure seems to fluctuate and I am getting the too high code. I'll let you know when the filter has been replaced

what brand of filter would you recommend. I have been using Crossland ones before.

Hi, thanks again for the help. I have made progress and got rid of the errors. Whilst I was doing the diags i noticed that Fuse 28E (FBH) had blown so I replaced it. That was the only thing apart from the wiring repair that I changed between the car running fine (albeit with the p0003 error) and running after it was all put back together. I removed the fuse and instantly the fuel pressure readings and the readings for VCV and PCV went straight back to normal. So, apart from a diesel leak from the RH pipe to fuel rail (replacement on the way) its now running without fuel pressure or valve issues. I'm just going to leave the FBH fuse out as I've spent enough time on this to get it running. Something i'll come back to in the future.
Thanks again for the help
Andy

If I'm reading your post correctly you're saying the FBH is affecting the PCM and therefore HPFP electrics. If that's the case then as you say it's best to leave the fuse out until you are satisfied the original running issues are resolved.
Three steps forward but only one step backwards. Progress, well done! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
