Fuel Injector Leak
Hi,
As the title suggests I have a fuel injector that is very slowly leaking diesel. The Diesel is collecting on top of the nut above the clamp and is visible when the engine is running. Its not spurting out and I only noticed it as when stationary over the last 2 days there has been a light amount of "smoke" coming from the NS wheel arch, I put it down to the FBH but thought I would check just to be sure . Given my limited knowledge of fuel injection systems (I grew up on A Series engines!) I am assuming that the Injector is FUBAR'd and a new/reconditioned one is required. Any help would be appreciated and if anyone can point me in the direction of reconditioned injectors that would be helpful.
Regards

More likely the the fuel leak off (return pipe) is leaking.

I had small leaks from 3 injectors when I purchased my D3. I got enough off to cover their replacement if needed.
I was hoping it was the spill off pipes. Some brake cleaner and checking later it turned out to be leaking from the injectors. At this point there were a few options. Refurb and wait a week or so or new injectors. I got 3 new injectors which stung a little . 2 were not so bad but one was gushing diesel all down the block which was visible through the drivers side wheel arch and stank! I hope it's the spill off as the injectors aren't cheap. Good luck.2008 XS Java Black

^^^^ As KostasA says - My leak off pipe was leaking and when i changed it I bought a pack of R clips from AF as when the clips fall into the great engine bay abyss they are gone forever.
Push a rag around each injector to try and catch the clip if you do drop it Current:

Thanks for the responses so far. I've taken the leak pipe off and there is no leak coming from it. As far as I can tell the injector is leaking from the large nut below the electrical connector. I'm thinking about swoping the "leaking" injector with the one from no. 4 cylinder to see if the leak moves with the injector. Can anyone think of a good reason as to why I shouldn't swop 2 injectors over?2009 Diesel HSE

It's not a particularly nice or quick job swapping injectors around.
Plus washer, plastic clips, and leakoff clip to loose in the process.
And they are difficult to pull out.
I'd try something else.
My leak only occurred at start up and that was the leak off pipe.

I had similar. Replaced the leak off pipes and still diesel pooling around the injector causing smoke. A new injector sorted it for me.

Sorry to dig up an oldish thread, but I had the same issue, and a new internal O-Ring on the injector solved the issue for me - cost me about £20 + labour, but only because I had to meet a MOQ and tried the leak off o-ring and clip first!
I'm hoping to do a kit for others who are similarly afflicted once I've collected enough info!Alex Threlfall (Nanocom Evolution Owner)
