I have taken del. of my 08.5 D3 and am dissapointed to find that i have to unlock the whole car to fill up at petrol stations. I even tried locking it again as i filled up only to find you then cannot shut the flap unless you unlock the whole car again. This leaves myself open to abuse from the low life that i know from experience hang around forecourts looking for easy pickings. Is there a trick to this as the book says not. The volvos i know have a time delay on the flap so when you lock the car you can still fill it up for 10 mins. or so. Any tricks?

You don't have to unlock the whole car, just the drivers door

I agree just unlock the driver door and you can open and close the fuel tank. Arno

Oh ok thanks i shall check it out later. I have to say that i hadn't tried the doors i just looked in the book after filling up and i thought i recalled it saying you had to unlock all doors. I still think its poor though having to leave any door unlocked just to fill up.

John
it might be that youve got your unlocking set to open all doors with one touch, as opposed to just the drivers door on the first touch, with all doors on the second touch.

If you fill up somewhere so rough that a thief may try getting in your car when you are 5 ft away on the same side. I'd have thought you would also want the door unlocked to get yourself in quickly if they decide to have a go at you (more likely to happen IMHO). What if the "Hokey Cokey" really is what it's all about?

When you get out of the car to fill up, lock the car by pressing the remote key lock twice within 5 seconds.
This double locks the car doors but enables the filler cap to remain unlocked !
Job done

Fuel Filler flap locks on my MY07 XS. Although it did some spooky thing when I first had it....doors locked flap open and vice versa. It seemed to sort itself out. Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

further to my above post, double locking also disables the interior perimeter alarm ---
which means that it's perfectly safe to use when you are transporting your whippets, ferrets, large birds of prey or the wife and kids
