Disco3Ben sorry your post doesn't include some vital information.
What, corrected MPG are you getting? Filling very couple of days adds nothing to our understanding of the issues. Are you doing 100 miles a day or 250 miles a day?
How are you calculating this?
Was your D3 manual or auto?
My D4, similar to yours has done 23.9 mpg over 40k miles, my D3 did 25.5 mpg over 86.5k miles. In both cases calculated in a spreadsheet of every fill up, 95%+ of the time "brimmed".
The 1.6 mpg deterioration I put down to auto rather than manual - I have disabled stop/start.

I recently did a trip to Cornwall with the family, a trip I have done the same for year.
In the D3 (Auto 2007) I could do the trip in 3/4 tank from full.
In the D4 (2016 Auto) I went through a whole tank and had to fill up on the way.
Same route, same load, same driving - suppose the only thing that could be different is tank capacity, but my wallet tells me the fill ups are costing the same.
so on that back to back comparison I used 1/4 tank more over a 280 mile journey in the D4.
That's what really made me think that something wan't right.
I'm not interested in the D4 going any faster, just wondering if there is a map out there that will keep everything as it is but help a bit with fuel economy.formerly Disco3Ben

don't the late model ad blue version have a smaller fuel tank by quite some margin ? to allow for the adblue tank to fit in ?
if so that could be why you see less miles per tank, you have less fuel to start off with?2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Disco3Ben - the only way of gauging fuel consumption reasonably accurately is, IMHO, by brimming the tanks, and keeping meticulous records, probably in a spreadsheet.

For reference, I do Surrey to Cornwall on about 2/3rd tank and at a decent speed.
However I do find that journey hammers the fuel consumption compared to other journeys. Think it’s all the hills on that route. Best calculate properly and see what’s what

What does everyone think the actual weight decrease would have to be to get better MPG? Obviously I'm not suggesting we all start taking bits off our Discos but on the other hand have you ever lifted a pair of third row boot seats in and out! they must be 120kg at least !
