I know there have been previous threads about fuel economy on the D4.
Ours is a MY12 XS and we have had it for 8 months and 7000 miles. Every time we fill it up, the range to empty shows somewhere between 380 and 400 miles. That seems ludicrously low, although I confess that I've never actually measured the consumption (it's really the wife's car - she likes knowing how long she has to go before a fill up and I've never bothered using the menus to see what the mpg figure is...)
Can any of you tell me how that number compares to the readings you get after filling up ?

I have same model and have done 1500 miles to date. I make a note of mileage at each refill and so far mpg is averaging 24. My old D3 2.7 TDV6 returned an average of 23 mpg over the 3 years that I had it.
Mixed driving conditions with a lot of it up and down A12 during off peak times so no delays due to heavy traffic. Will soon be venturing abroad and be interesting to see what return I get on French autoroutes.
Like numerous other posts the consumption indicated is always a few mpg higher than I have actually achieved.
So no shocks for me regarding consumption with new D4 and a much better drive so overall I am happy.

Mine's a MY12 HSE and my range comes up at 425 miles to go, not sure about the accuracy of the on board computer in any event and have been too squeamish to really check it out!

My MY11 tells me 380 once filled to the brim - hate to think what I am getting.
My old manual D3 used to start at 460 and on long runs got even more.
its also SWMBO and luckily she hasnt clocked it otherwise I would be in trouble. D4 HSE - Aintree Green
D4 Orkney my13 - gone
Stornaway D4. Gone, Didn't like it at all
D3 silver manual. Loved my first LR

My 2012 HSE shows 24.8 (28.7 on 300 trip on M25/M11 last weekend). It has done 2400miles in 9 weeks and the real mpg on fill up is about 22mpg (380 something).
My old 2011 was better once it had done 10,000miles (which my local independent LR specialist said it would). It was then doing about 31mpg on motorways according to lieometer. In real world about 29!
What the hell, it's a great bit of kit and let's face it, you only live once, at least that's what I tell the wife!

My 2009 D4's on board readout always reckons about 600-700 km per full to the brim tankful, but I always get at least 900km and usually more than that. 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Depends on where you buy your diesel too!. It is suppose to be all the same grade, etc but they must be adding in 'stuff' somewhere. There's one garage near home, where i get around 32-33mpg per week. One mile up the road from that garage, there is another garage of the same brand/franchise but I'd be lucky if i get 22 mpg per week even tough its suppose to be the same branded diesel

That'll be down to the fact that you are only driving the 'uphill' bits... anything going down has all that free momentum behind you!
Back on topic, mine (11MY, 3,0l Commercial, 15 months old with 36k) tends to show a range of around 440 on fill and average of high 31's in use D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY
D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)

It is obvious that the "Distance to Empty" bit of the D4's software is not very accurate. I've got 75km further after it screams "0" at me.... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

After filling up, my "distance to empty" reading changes depending on the average mpg total to date. If I re-set the trip then the reading will change as it's got nothing to go on. I thought they all worked this way? If I drive like a granny for a tankful then the distance to empty will look great for a while!

This is very true. After one of my regular trips down through France and Spain I get the 900km figure to a full tankful...... but even so I know I have actually got the equivalent of the thousand km to a full tankful (though not physically to avoid emptying the tank altogether if you see what I mean). 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial
