Hi
Had the dreaded noise and movement from my NSF wheel, so decided to do it the easy way and get a replacement hub and crack on with it.
After finally freeing the driveshaft lock nut and stripping the rest of, no matter what I do I cannot get the driveshaft to release from the hub. Is it tapered or does it have a lock ring on it ? or is it just seized ?
I have tried:
Whacking it with a hide hammer - both ends
Block of wood and hammer
Using Disco Mikeys drift method and a big hammer
Lots of Plusgas sprayed librally
Heat the shaft using a heat gun and trying the above
Still can shift it....... so guessing I need a hub splitter......
Been up to Machine Mart and both of theirs don't fit due to the large flange on the Disco hub.....
Can anyone else suggest anything else - techniques or a tool that will fit.
Cheers

when you are hitting the end of the shaft is there movement in the drive shaft to allow it to move inwards if you know what i mean (if the shaft is solid behind the cv joint you will never move it ) i use a heavy copper hammer and its probibly seized

This is going to sound really basic but you have removed the 4 bolts that pass through the leg and hold the hub unit on
Best way I did mine recently on both sides was to leave the 4 mounting bolts in a couple of turns of thread, they are not threaded through the leg just the hub unit, and hit equally moving round all 4 till the mating surfaces of the leg &hub unit split slightly. Care needed so as not to clout the Rubber Boot in the process but turning the steering hard left & right opens up more space to aim at the bolt in question. Took out all 4 mounting bolts, thereafter used a bolster and a cold chisel to drive into the split to "persuade" the hub unit out of the leg and release off the spines on the driveshaft end. Work around the unit evenly using same procedure. If it's the first time since manufacture the hub unit has been out it is a pig to move so do not be afraid to give it some clout as that's the only way it will move !
Good luck !

Cheers guys for the replies
I did not have any movement in the shaft at all, as that would have been a good sign!
I did try banging it with the bolts out, in partially and out so all methods tried. I also did the chisel method and got it to move by about 5-10mm out of the main assembly and so loose I could rotate it. Are you saying I needed to keep on banging fook out of it as it needs to come further as it felt like the shaft was stopping it.
Any help, feedback or recommendations for a puller would be appreciated guys!

Your almost there - the hub unit does extend into the leg by about 15 mm, if you can rotate it then your free from the leg just couple of clouts will move it off the splines. Good soak of the unit to splines of thedrive shaft with releasing agent or WD40 and it will be off ...The movement you have acheived is in all probability equal to the slack movement of the driveshaft.
My NSF was harder on than OSF and took longer to release - pretty corroded in.
It's all about engineering with clout ....

If you've got it that far out, then it's not stuck on the driveshaft.
I used a neighbours pulley that he uses for farm stuff. Very heavy duty. But had to put an old socket in the middle as it was too deep for it.
I ended up having to tap the hub out with a chisel and a very large lump hammer.... Going around the hub in the same way you've already described.
It's not stuck on the driveshaft, just still stuck in the hub, so needs to be done equally from all sides. Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like a bit more percussional engineering is required then!
I thought rusty/seized parts had gone away with my 2a/disco 1
Another job for the weekend after 3 shredded wheats then!

Just to say cheers for the help. Mission accomplished
luckilly my father in law had got an old hub puller from the sixties (!) that was perfect for the job. I had to pull it 5 times to get the fooker off as it was well and truely siezed, as well as having to pull it right to the end as it just would not come off!
The puller looked like one of the 3 arm gear puller types but with a two stage hydraulic action
price of pi55 when it was finally off!
