Front spot lights
Do front spot lights similar to the ones in the pic below need to have a seperate illuminated switch in the cabin if they are wired direct into main beam via relay etc?

Not as fr as I'm aware, though I find it very useful having a seperate switch for them, gives three stage lighting.

I thought it was a legal requirement in the uk, although loads of folks don’t bother with one.

I am about to wire up a lightbar and most of the wiring looms that are available only seem to be on / off. I want to get one that is on / off but connected to high beams. So that it can only come on when the high beams are on - but I want to be able to stop it coming on with the high beams as well - if that makes sense.
Anyone come across looms that can do that?

No sure about looms but on my old freelander 1 I had roof mounted spots. They were wired into the main beam but because they were roof mounted they had to be on an illuminated switch on the dashboard. So if the switch was on/lit they would come on with main beam and flash. If the switch was off only main beam would come on.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

I don't know what looms you are looking at, but you need a relay that is energised (switched on) by the main beam. The relays are easy to find and are often included in made up looms.

Were they factory/dealer fitted?
LR do a complete fitting ki for front spots that includes a dash mounted switch.

Not factory although it did have factory deivingblights as well.
The roof rack was genuine LR expedition.

I've had a look (again) through the regulations and I can't find anything that says you have to have additional main beam lamps on a seperate switch.
It says you have to have a "tell-tale" light that main beams are illuminated and that they must dip or go off. That is cover by the existing main beams, so you just need to take the rigger from the main beam.
Though as I said I prefer having the option of having the spots on or off.

Funny enough bought one of those factory kits for my FL1, was all plug and play and had the switch that mounted down by the RH side of the dashboard
Fitted it all then the heater matrix decided to leak and had to take the dashboard out to replace it
