Front outer CV gaiter

As mentioned in another thread my D3 failed it's MOT yesterday on a split outer front CV gaiter.

I've had some success with stretchy ones lately on my sons Ibiza so sought one out for the D3.

I was really sceptical that I'd manage to get the small end over the large outer diameter of the joint, especially as it also has the toothed ring around the outer edge.

I've never used a cone to fit them preferring to wrap the joint in cling film and apply lots of silicone grease.

In case it helps anyone this is how I managed it on the D3.

First I wrapped the whole joint in 3 layers of clingfilm. Then I discovered that the top tapered section of a 1.5L Robinsons squash bottle when cut off the rest of the bottle fits almost perfectly over the toothed ring, and that the threaded end of the shaft fit's neatly through the neck.
With a smear of silicone grease the stretchy gaiter pulled over the bottle with a bit of a struggle, but I can confirm it is possible.

Nasher.

You are struggling to imagine a big hard shaft with an enlarged end having a bit of lubricated rubber rolled over it?

You are pure of mind if nothing else!

Hi Nasher. Old thread. Where did you get your stretchy gaiter?
