Front Fog Lights on a D4 GS |
|
Hi All,
Still undecided what to do with our 2010 Disco 4 GS, I have it up for sale in the For Sale Section but I keep thinking about what I’d replace it with...
One option is to keep it and buy a set of Landmark Alloys and to fit a set of front foglights, as being ‘only’ a GS it doesn’t have any and the front looks a little naked...
Has anyone fitted them from scratch? If so, my main nervousness is around cutting the front bumper... I vaguely remember that someone may have mentioned that if I remove the bumper the markings where to cut out should be on the rear of the bumper... or perhaps I imagined that...
Thanks,
HFM66

On the rear face of a D3 front bumper, the cut out markings are there, but not sure on a D4, sorry. If they turn out to be there, then there is nothing to worry about, I chain drilled the plastic (just inside the lines), and then cut with a Stanley knife, or you could use a Dremel or some such, like a rotary file in a drill......... Apart from the fog lights themselves, you are likely to need the screws/ captive nuts for them, the surround bezels, the wiring loom, and a new dash light switch if yours does not have a front fog light position in it. On my D3 these were plug and play, but on a D4, again, not sure if this is the case, they may need enabling with an IID TOOL or such like. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump. RRS front lower suspension arms. New suspension compressor/ relay. New Denso alternator. CuNifer rear brake pipes. New GKN rear propshaft. New HPFP belt & tensioner. New A/C Condenser.NO WARRANTY for many many years.

It’s more for the aesthetics... although we did have a week here of fog each morning a couple of months ago...

Why bother wiring them up?- they are never used! It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

That is a fair point, in the 13 yrs or so mine have been on the car, I think I’ve used them in actual proper fog, 3 or 4 times. Is it the case that if they were used more frequently (and therefore warmed up inside more frequently) they would corrode less or at least more slowly? Gary

Not sure about that Gary_P, mine seem to be not corroded very much after very little use tbh. ie, mine have not been submerged in deep water wading, just used occasionally, and once when both (halogen) headlamp bulbs blew on my way to work one day,, and I had to compromise by using the fog lights instead. I have long since fitted xenon headlamps, and this has not occurred again. D3 owned from new, P017 brake recall, BAS FBHIC, new FBH, LR013487 oil pump, new water pump.
