front discs @ 37K miles - Is this a record !?!

My Disco has led an easy life - no towing, generally decent runs, little/no heavy braking etc and my dealer just announced that it needs new front discs together with its second set of pads. Admittedly the warning light was on for about a week, during which the vehicle covered no more than 100 miles.

Does this sound realistic or do I sense my dealer is looking to prop up his tumbing sales revenue with some unnecessary service work??

Stupidly I didn't get a price or ask to inspect the offending items before I agreed the work. Surely there has to be some level of integrity amongst main agents . . . . doesn't there???

What should we be realistically be paying (assuming the work was actually justified).... Embarassed Shocked Mad Big Cry

My front discs lasted 90k miles. Make sure you ask for the old parts to be left in the boot for your inspection.

Yes, i thought of that but they could easily switch them for 100K milers they keep for such eventualities.... I will try to catch them out be asking to see the inspection report and see if that gives any clues and also I know the service limit on them is 27mm (thanks to this forum), so if they are trying to pull the wool over my eyes, atleast I know the figures.

Mine must have been made from chocolate!!!!!!

Two sets of pads in 37k miles seems a bit harsh. Possible you've nobbled the discs if your pad use is that heavy Confused
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

No perhaps i didn't explain that very well. They are just fitting the second set - first set of pads lasted 37K miles - the same as the discs....

My front pads were changed at 30,000 miles, however I mic'd the discs, and they were still 29mm, so I'd be surprised if yours are worn to the limit TBH......The rear pads seem to wear out much earlier (17k on mine),but discs still OK.

Only the pads were changed (a little prematurely) but they didn't try to stiff me for discs. If they did, I would have had something to say that's for sure. Thumbs Up

Thanks for that. My wife took the car in so I hope it wasn't a case of going for the soft touch. I will be collecting the vehicle tooled up with my micrometer!!! 8)
