This might be a daft question, but when you change the front diff oil should you refill and/or drain possibly, with the vehicle level on the ground, or is it fine to do whilst on axle stands ??
I ask because when I did mine recently, I removed the fill plug and oil ran out - hmmm been over filled by last owner I thought?, anyway I drained it off, re-fit the drain plug - no problems. I then re-filled with the correct amount, and it was running out like I'd over-filled, it didn't pour out but there was more than I would have liked and thought normal and I'd to use a rag to wipe up.
I'm sure all is fine, but it's annoying me now so I thought Id ask
Cheers

I had mine up on a ramp on the drive a few weeks ago and no oil came out with the filler plug removed. Didn’t get to drain as didn’t have the correct square socket for the drain plug
Anyway it should take 0.61 litres so if you’ve filled to that volume I wouldn’t worry. 2007 D3 TDV6 XS - GONE
BAS Remap
EGRs blanked
Adaptive bi-xenons
RLD spare wheel protector

The stated 0.61- I actually put slightly less in, to allow for any that didn't drain, so call it 0.6 for easy reckoning...

That is the ammount I put in, I'm just worried now that 1- have I too much in and 2- or not enough😐....
I want to laugh regarding the drain plug, but can't....I did the same😂

Wyn, it shouldn’t do the fill hole is much higher than the measured fill gets to so something went wrong! Only the auto box has fill and level hole using the correct procedure. Everything else is a measured fill.

When I last did mine about 3 yrs ago both diffs took the exact amount required, and neither overspilled.
Im sure its not the end of the world if you let it drain down until its level with the bottom of the fill hole.
It is without a shadow of a doubt the daftest/smallest quantity of diff oil I have ever come across.
