[Free] Laburnum wood - FREE but a Forum donation would be ni
Sadly I have to fell some laburnum trees.
I am told the wood is quite valuable, but have no idea what it is worth or where to sell it.
There are two trees with 5 "stalks" - all over 70 years old, but not vast, probably 15-20 feet tall, and quite thin at the top.
I've seen logs on eBay and could cut up into sections, but feel that the 5 lengths might be more valuable.
There's also a massive "lump" at the base, is this worth preserving?
I also need help in finding a single reasonably large laburnum to plant to replace the dead tree please?

It's good for woodturning, which my father does a lot of. He's away at the moment but I will send a message and see if he is interested....2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

you could try the UKworkshop forum. I'm sure there would be a few interested in buying it. The lump at the base could be a burr- worth keeping for sure if it is.

A few years ago this question of toxicity of laburnum was brought up on the Bodgers forum and one member asked the question of Kew, and they had no evidence of problems caused by the wood, they did cite a few case of poisoning by ingesting the berries and even these were not serious in fact fatalities are described as very rare. I use it without any problems.==================================

I'll take no further action for a while to see whether APL's father might be interested.
I have had one approach from an interested party, who noticed the activity in my garden !

i had to fell on in my mums garden recently and brougth wood back for fire wood but decided the grain pattern was too nice so used the stack for ornamental reasons.
will the toxicity be an issue if i dried and stacked inside for display rather than burning? XC90 T8 R Design Pro

if Kew has no evidence for toxiticity issues involving the wood, then I don't think you need to be worried unless you are planning on eating .... a lot! I use it for all sorts of things except for items where direct food contact is involved.==================================

I had a response, from someone miles away, saying that they would really like this wood; but couldn't collect it for a few months.
I agreed to store it, but despite a number of promises the wood has still not been collected.
The wood is now nicely seasoned, and I am happy to offer it, FREE, to anyone who can collect in the next couple of weeks; although a donation to the forum would be most welcome.
I am offering it elsewhere, so can't promise it will be available long.

Hi - am down in that part of the world at the weekend, and might be able to get to you Sunday afternoon - will it fit inside the back of a disco with the rear seats down?
I will be burning it, so if anyone wants it for more artistic or aesthetic purposes, feel free, but if I can get the logistics to work it might stock me up for a few weeks.....
Can you send pm with address and we'll continue chat there?

Unfortunately too far for me, burning it would be a sin.==================================

well, if I bring it to Shropshire, you can come and take your pick?
(however, am concerned my timings might be too tight to drop by this weekend, but am down again in a couple of weeks.....)
