I think they realise that the American public wouldn't stand for snapped cranks and spun bearings like we have to!! ------------------------------

Heading at the top of the dash for 10,000 mile range does say DEF Status.
Less than the D4, but then it is a much bigger engine.Gary

Interesting comment in there - complemented by purpose-designed main and rod bearings.

and a different crank
I reckon that they're all the same parts.
Some clever wording from the manufacturer - it doesn't say they've upgraded the engine, it says 'purpose designed'. Well, the original mains and rod bearings were purpose designed. The crank has always been forged as well.Disco 5 HSE Lux

Agree, more than likely the same parts on the same production line.
Hopefully the yanks will demand spare parts availability.

Reading the comments it seems they think its a non interference engine, oh my they are going to be in for a shock in a few years
Remember when the D4 first came? out and peeps were saying its much better than the earlier 2.7 and for a few years it was and now theres always posts on the 3.0, Im sure not as many as the 2.7, but add that and the fact many are defecting from the brand due to poor warranty?

I'd hope the D4 engine would last longer that the 166k miles my D3 lump lasted, but no way I'm going to be keeping it until then.

So it does.
Unless the IID allowed you to negotiate DEF issues I don't think I'd go near one...does it?Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto
