Fitted some Powerful UK combined fog/DRL lights but still, after several tries, I'm unable to get them to extinguish when the dip beam is turned on. I'm appealing to any 'sparkys' who can tell me what I'm doing wrong please.
I sourced a 'normally closed' relay and connected the power, from the pollution sensor spare connector behind the grille, to the new lights across terminals 30 and 87A. (this relay doesn't have terminal 87).The drl's and fogs work fine. Then I picked up a 'signal' feed from the dip beam wire at the headlamp connector and connected to terminal 86 on the relay with a ground from terminal 85. My meter shows that this circuit is live when the dip beam is activated but the drl's stay illuminated. Thinking it was a faulty relay I tried a second one - and the same result!
The new lights are Powerful UK's 'FOG923-MKR and the supplier recommends connecting via a controller but are unable to advise which controller might be suitable.
I'm no expert but expected this to be a relatively simple wiring job but, clearly, it isn't.
Does anyone have any thoughts and any advice to offer to help me get these lights operating correctly (on with the ignition - off with dipped beam). Thanks, in advance, for any help guys. Now gone -D3 XS 2007

I used one of these from fleabay, eBay Item No. 303287232871, although I didn't go for the fog as well, just the DRL. 2011 Discovery 4 Commercial SDV6 (Gone)

Thanks, I'll have a look at that though, after trying two 'controllers' and two relays I need to be absolutely sure that the next part I buy is actually going to work. It's a wiring issue, I'm sure, but what issue, exactly, I do not know. Now gone -D3 XS 2007

The DRL does not need a relay, power requirements are minimal. Decent cable and connectors will do, nothing massive, just quality items. 2011 Discovery 4 Commercial SDV6 (Gone)

The relay is not to activate the drl's, it's to extinguish them when the headlights come on. How else can that be done? I'm just trying to get them to operate as the regs require. Now gone -D3 XS 2007

The controller I suggested reduces the power to them once your side or headlights come on. It's a neat little unit that so far has worked without issues for me. 2011 Discovery 4 Commercial SDV6 (Gone)

Ok. Thanks. I'm beginning to think there may be a conflict, somewhere, between the fog and drl elements of the lights - but I don't know how to identify that and the supplier can't help. Now gone -D3 XS 2007

I thought DRL only had to dim when sidelights/dipped/main came on if the DRL was within a certain distance from the standard lights? i.e within the same enclosure as on the MY14/15 lights ?
so DRL in the fog light enclosures wouldn't fall within this and don't legally have to dim ?
could be wrong though 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

That's true, however they are too bright to have on once it gets dark, plus they cannot be aligned/aimed, so could cause 'blindness' to oncoming drivers.
I did read somewhere that they must dim once sidelights are activated, although can't find it again, and to be safe, have mine doing that.
