| Flat battery and check engine light |
|
Wife went to start the car today and it wouldn’t start. Everything seemed to power on but it didn’t crank.
Had a look when I got home and clock had reset so figured it was a flat battery problem. Stuck a charger on the battery and after a while I was able to start the car. But the amber check engine light was on. I drove the car around and no issues at all.
Should I get the car checked out or will the warning light go when I replace the battery?

Left the car charging overnight and then started again in the morning without issue and no warning light.
Spoke to the dealer and they said anew battery needed setting up on the computer. How critical is this really?
Agreed with the dealer to replace, fit, do diagnostics and reset computer for £300. Didn’t think that was too bad so went with it.

You can get this issue with a flat battery, happened to me once, had to clear the code with the IID Tool.
The BMS has to be reset but don’t think it’s actually critical, lot of money though to connect up to the diagnostics and reset the BMS.

So the battery was flat, you charged it up, started the engine and the amber light stayed on?- this points to a duff alternator not battery! If the alternator was putting out sufficient current the light would go out, unless the battery had completely failed, but it hadn’t as it started the engine.
I would need confirmation that the alternator is doing it’s job before shelling £300 out, a new AGM batery is around £180 if the alternator is faulty it can kill the new battery very quickly  It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I did ask the dealer to do a battery check before replacing. They showed me the print out that’s stated the battery was faulty and needed replacing and apparently nothing else came up on the diagnostics checks.
Wondering if I have recourse if I have subsequent problems and turns out its the alternator?
