[Fixed] Couple of FBH and diagnostic questions...

Hi,

Clicked the remote fob for the fbh this morning whilst stood next to the motor and I heard the fbh start to fire up so the remote works. After 1 to maybe 2 minutes, the fbh shuts down. I can hear it slowing down and then stopping completely. If I click the fob again, it repeats, fires up, shuts down over a 1 to 2 minute period.

There were exhaust gases coming out of the fbh exhaust as I could feel it on my hand. It was 2 degrees C outside air temp and my fuel tank was full and the battery had been charged with the Ctek during the following day in an attempt to try and narrow the problem down. The car remained locked and in "sleep". I didn't unlock the car ot anything like that.

So, I'm guessing I need to have a bash with the diagnostic leads to see if I can get it to fire up and run a full burn. My laptop has usb and serial ports. Can someone share any links for the parts I need to buy if they've found them for a decent price anywhere?

I read on here about brake/carb cleaner... what do I do with that? Spray it into the air intake to try and bring it to life? If someone can shed some light on that, i'd appreciate it.

As for the software, is it easy enough to use and am i going to break anything?

Thanks in advance.

Jim

I've read that and Robbie's guide to strip and clean, but thought i'd try a diagnostic session on it first to save the aggro of taking it out etc as I use it daily. Couldn't find the trick to do with the brake/carb cleaner in there and thinking that might be enough to summons it to life.

Can't wait to get it running and see the neighbours scraping their cars whilst I swan off down the drive like royalty. Laughing

Just take it off and bridge the 2 water pipes with a piece of copper pipe then you can use it as normal until you strip, clean and diagnose yours Thumbs Up
That’s what I did with mine I found a burned out pot with the similar symptoms to yours !
Ended up replacing mine Thumbs Up

Will the copper pipe (i assume 22mm?) do the job instead of the 20mm barbed connector then? I had a look at removing it but thought it might be a simple fix and I may be stripping it for no reason which is why I thought diagnostics first?

That and i could see how to get the power plug off. The others are simple but the power(purple/brown and black plug) didn't want to budge and the mounting bracket get in the way to try and use a screw driver to drepress a lug if there is one?

Get a GAPII or similar on it and try a fuel prime maybe?
Stripping it is a bit extreme first off.
The GAP tool can prime it, then run a burn test for you. The diagnostic lead available from the Disco4 shop allows deeper diagnostics and may help after the easy checks first.

My thoughts exactly Bardley. Thumbs Up

I've got a Gap IID and have cleared any faults.

I tried to remote start it with the car asleep and connected to the CTEK so every condition was right for it to work. It coughed and spluttered as I sprayed carb cleaner into the air intake. I thought "This looks promising" and "Thank goodness there's fireworks going off as the neighbours would've been looking out of their windows with all the pops and bangs it was making. Rolling with laughter

Then.... I noticed a pool of diesel on the ground... Big Cry

I'm guessing the fuel pipe has come loose or off and whenever it calls for fuel it's spraying out of a joint rather than supplying the fbh.

My next question is, where does the fbh fuel line attach to? I had a quick look, but it's now dark.

If someone can tell me where it joins and the process to get to it, i'd be eternally grateful. Thumbs Up

Tried an airline in the air intake? That's been posted as a good catalyst to fire it up..

I've got a feeling it'll probably fire up once I find the fuel leak. But I'll bare the air line trick in mind. I'd got flames kicking out of the air intake at one point. Shocked

Does anyone know where the fuel line connects? Is it the fuel filter or is it just a tee somewhere?

If you want electrical parts for a diagnostic lead (or a whole lead):

https://www.disco3.co.uk/shop/webasto-wiring-parts-c15.html

The D3 key blade can help remove the FBH power plug. Insert the blade into the slot in the latch and gently lever down to unlatch.

Thanks Martin. I saw a mention of the key but handn't a clue how it would release it. I'll keep trying to find the fuel leak and then if it doesn't start once fixed, I'll go down the diagnostic route and strip/clean.

Although the arsonist in me quite liked watching the flames kicking out Twisted Evil

Just need to find out where the fbh fuel pipe attaches on the other end away from the fbh. Question

Hi

I found a connector that was leaking on mine , is was on the FBH fuel line , u have to remove the passengers side wheel arch liner to gain access to it

The pipe going into the connector is plastic on top and metal underneath, it also has plastic covers either side which u have to remove to gain access to the pushfits collers

I just bought a new pushfit connector, with the engine off only a very small amount of fuel came out

Fitting a new connector sorted out my fuel leak

Hope that helps

Was the push fit connector a LR part and don't suppose you have the part number do you?

Out today but will have a look tomorrow. Thumbs Up
