Fittings RRS Roof Bars to D4
Had a set of roof bars left over from the Sport, which as Landrover will only sell the bars if you have the rails as well, meant they gathered dust in the garage.
Was surprised when getting them out to look at on D4 they were wider than the D4 by around 3-4 inches.
So removed plastic covering clip and rubber insert and found 1 torq screw which also removed so whole plastic end slide off ally rail.
Cut 3 inches off end, drilled a new hole for torq screw and reassembled.
Now fits perfect on D4.D4 Landmark MY16 Santorini Black THE LAST

hi guys, Ive been chasing roof bars for my D3 on Ebay for a few months. They always sell for more than I'm prepared to pay, usually around 135GBP. I found this thread after a quick google search last week.
I got a set of RRS bars off ebay for 60GBP including postage but no keys. I got replacement keys for 4GBP.
My question is: can anyone give me a correct length in mm of the rail part(between the end caps) of D3/4 bars to allow me to cut down these RRS bars. TIA

I bought RRS bars by accident and had to trim them down. I just put one foot in the rail, marked and cut off the overlap.PAGODA

Yeah that would work, however; I've managed to get the answer from someone with an OEM set, its 900mm between the inner faces of the end caps.

Ok thanks.
I'll check the roof rails for parallelism and see.
They only arrived in the post yesterday(Monday 7 Sep) so I've not cut them yet.

Modifying RRS roof bars to fit Disco 3/4
Thanks DaveJLBI
You were right there is a difference between front and rear bar length.
The roof rails are not parallel.
The distance between the inner edges of the rails differs by 60mm. The front is wider than the rear.

I did not know that.... perhaps that is why I struggle to fit them sometimes!

Modifying RRS roof bars to fit Disco 3/4
Ah ha! Now that someone has sent me photos of the D3/4 roof bars, I can see the wee labels on the bars are marked for front and rear fittment.
Please see the attached photos from Peter Tingus

It is! I paid £15 for mine as the metal was scratched to pieces and the rubber was missing. New rubber and sand down and re-spray and they look like new... they do not have stickers saying front and rear though!

I have powerfuluk replica bars.
I had no idea front and rear were different, but have always had to loosen the small screw mentioned above to allow the bar ends to float until I have them in place then tighten - they must be on slots.
