Fitting tow hitch

New to list

I had a play trying to fit the tow hitch into it's socket, but the movable pin was 1 mm too long to clear the body and drop into its slot. Any advise without resorting to a lump hammer?

cheers

Hi David - yes it can be hard to get the pin back but I have never had to resort to a hammer but Jamo has made mention of such a tool with regards to his...

See http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic5380.html?highlight=hammer and look for Jamo's post about half way down.

LeighW,

Thanks, It may be that you have to pull the green handle before turning to fully retract the pin. I will try this approach. Cheers

It certainly is tricky get this to plug in. You can never do it when in a hurry.

The trick is with the green handle which needs to be pulled out and then turned fully to get the pin to fully retract. When you plug the hitch in you need to hold it like this until the hitch is fully inserted before releasing the spring loaded handle.

And the key does come out only if properly seated. No need for the American screwdriver.

I have had two occasions where the pin has come out too far and I couldn't get the tow hitch reciever back onto the car. Too much road grime, methinks. Out came the hammer and voila!

At the end of the day, try the correct way, but.... if that doesn't work! The way I look at is: If a hammer breaks the pin, then it's not going to hold a 3500kg load.

I don't drive my D3 in grime Laughing so no such problems with my hitch.

The truth is that I've never towed anything with my D3. Shocked

I must admit, all I've ever towed is my 7x4 box trailer. Rolling Eyes
