Fitting a Roof Tent to a G4 Rack - can it be done?

Now that SWMBO has agreed to the idea of a rooftent I'm after some advice:

1. Anyone know if a G4 rack & roof tent are compatible? I have my doubts because of the raised rails on the rack.
2. I'm considering a "Maggiolina Extreme Rooftent" or a Hannibal 1.2/1.4 Roof Tent anyone got any experience with either of these?

Cheers, DN

Penguin has fitted a roof tent by removing his side rails. I've removed my side rails but haven't fitted a roof tent.... yet. Smile

I've also see pics of Oztents being mounted on the roof... (on their company site I think) So I guess you could have the best of both worlds, on the roof or on the floor if you want all the side panels etc fitted for more than just an overnight stop.

Thanks guys Thumbs Up

I actually spotted Penguin's roof tent on this month's page of the D3 calendar, but didn't realise he used a G4 rack Shocked

Simon - you working for Oztents now Laughing Point taken though, and having watch "The Video" last night and today, I'm definitely going to look at an RV-3 OzTent before making a decision. Cheers Matey.

I've an awning on the side (probably the same height as a D4 raised rail. I just clamped a 2" x 2" hardwood board on the LR cross-bars and mounted the tent to those bars (bit of milling and mucking about but it works fine).

Simon, Having just watched the BOAB DVD I'm convinced, OzTent it is.

Now I just hope my LR Day tent and connecting tunnel go for same sort of money as the one earlier this month and I'm laughing Whistle

Cheers Guys Thumbs Up

Sweet... give BOAB a call and see if they have a roof mounting idea if you still want to do that... they do do roof tents too.

Tell them I recommended it and it was recommended here on the forum. Won't likely get you a discount but it will be good karma for disco3 Thumbs Up
