My first tip would be to through the useless LR instruction in the bin!

Getting the trim out is the first challenge and i tried many ways including a special tool to remove plugs

Best solution i found was get a sharp wood chisel and gentley go underneath the plastic blank plugs and a gentle tap with a mallet or hard hand and the top comes of. There are three on each side.

Dont pull at the trims you will bend and damage them!

Once you have remove all three lift the trim from the rear and then gently by the front screen gently raise and pull. its held in by a double sided bit of tape at the top of the pillar!

The stub of the plug is a pig to pull out as it fits in the thread of the bolts. Remove these by twisting them with a pair of long nose pliers. If this fails you can gently drill them out - use a drill bit the same diameter as the hole and go all the way down - quite a long way. You can get a feel how far by looking at the new bolts and if you leave a bit in the new bolt wont tighen up (i tried)

If you do drill them then make sure you add greae. or paint the hole to stop corrosion

You need to shorten the original trims - i was told that there should be a line to show you where to cut - but not on mine. I have not cut mine yet as i was in a rush - but i will do it with a hand grinder with diamond blade in it. A new sharp hacksaw will do the trick also. I suggest a practice run a bit lower down!

The rest is easy - you cant get them the wrong way round - once you work out which of the plastic trims is front and back.

I did mine today also,

Pretty easy job, my weatherstrips came off quite easy just the bit at the front with the tape was a bit tough but just give it a wee yank.

I cut 1525mm off the rear part of the strips with a hacksaw as per instructions, I then got stanley knife and gently eased out the plastic plugs.

Replaced the front part of the weatherstrips, they clip in quite easily, I just need to get some double sided sticky pads or something to secure the front but they are fine just now without.

I screwed the end caps onto the rails first, you cant go wrong they only fit one way and then screwed them tight into the holes provided - job done, only took me about an hour or so.

Hope this helps

Apologies, bit of a thread resurrection here..

I've recently fitted the roof rails to fit the prospeed rack. Before the rack went on, there was a fair bit of up/down play on the rails - is that normal?

With the rack fitted it seems to have compressed the bars onto the roof and they're rock solid.

they should be solid as a rock with just the bars
sounds like the bolts were not fully tightened
how did you remove the blanking plastic bolts?
if you cut them off and didnt remove the whole length then this blogs the bolt from going in all the way. i had this and had to drill the plastic bit out

Hmm interesting - thanks.

All but one of the plugs came out without drilling (cut the heads off either side so I was left with a bit to grab onto and then unscrewed them with a pair of pliers), and I've got the bolts as tight as I can by hand. I might have to investigate this weekend..
