Cutting Pocket

How hard is it to cut the pocket out? And where exactly do you cut, just along the top or the bottom as well?

Thanks.

First, this is an awesome thread. I just finished this install. While 2006 factory nav is several generations behind current GPS solutions, the 4x4 information page and integrated backup camera (with the 'cut the 4th wire' mod) made this modification worth it.

As for 8-month old question about how to cut the pocket, I had best success with an oscillating multitool with a new wood cutting blade. You have to be careful not to cut the black plastic tabs that hold the side-pins of the nav screen but there is room to work with. To pop off the pocket from the back where it's glued on, I did not have enough purchase to pull it loose until I cut a slit across the back, straight, and then could get enough leverage. Have a vacuum handy, there's a lot of plastic trimmings afterwards. It's probably a 20-30 minute job if you have an oscillating tool.

Next up.... fitting the e-diff...
