also - its a long jaunt from des 4 vents, as its east of Paris, out to Brittany, as you've to get round Paris first.

There's a Castels site near Quimper we have used:

http://www.camping-castels.co.uk/camping-d...ing15.html

Also, from Des 4 Vents, its a short drive to Tournan, and you can catch the train into Paris.

First time driving on the "wrong" side? Easy when you are concentrating, it's when you either go into auto mode or think "I've got this sussed" that it goes the way of the pear. Thumbs Up

And agree with DD, deffo get a tag as there are often high level tag only lanes. Thumbs Up

First time towing on the wrong side of the road, quite happy to do distance but now with small ones in tow and its also a holiday, thinking of breaking it up a bit! Also from what everyones saying the distance can be underestimated a tad!!

APRR for the tag - there is a 10 Euro deposit on the tag and you then pay 1.5 Euro per month that you actually use it for the billing and pay at standard toll rates with the money coming out of your account on 19th of the month following use.

There is a UK based tolling set up (think this is linked to Sanef) and you do pay a premium rate with them!

APRR tags are fine but 90% of the time the height barriers are set at 2.0m on the dedicated 30kmh toll booths so you need to use the mixed booths which are still busy.....

Be security conscious at any aires especially large ones near big towns, just keep your eyes open.

You could avoid the autoroute altogether and just use the route national, but with a tintent it would make the journey longer and harder work.

Honestly I find driving in France much easier than the UK when it comes to traffic, true it gets busy in August but isn't the UK like that all the time ?

Dial in 110kmh on the cruise control and enjoy the wind turbines Laughing

We drove through France last year for the 1st time, en route to Spain.
Not knowing any other we went 1st weekend in August - what a complete nightmare Big Cry
The traffic was so bad I wouldn't even consider going that time of year if I did it again.
If I was forced to go at that time again I would plan on making slow progress each day.
Perhaps it will be better in the region you are visiting Thumbs Up

PS: I forgot to say that we often travel during the night. Started doing this with the Tin Tent and now continue to do so. Children and dogs sleep whilst we drive.

Whistle

Surely your GTW will exceed 3.5 tonnes so unless you are towing a box of Kleenex, I think you'll find it's a speed limit of 90kmh (55 mph)

Speed limits are important - the police seem to target foreign vehicles before French.

If you are apprehended exceeding the limit you may face an on-the-spot fine.

If your are caught driving more than 50 KPH (that's 30 MPH) over the limit - an instant ban and an impounding of your vehicle.

These are helpful websites about driving in France:-

Hi All,
Thanks for all the replies, have now got my two sites in France booked up, just the ferry and stopovers to sort!!!
The speed limit thing was one of the confusing things for me but I am hazarding a guess its going to be the 55mph version!!! We are all looking forward to it, I pick up the new van tomorrow and have a few shake down trips before we head abroad!! We've been out of the tintent game for a couple of years so slowly digging out the bits we didnt sell or giveaway when we sold our last one!!!

Cheers

Jamie
