Finland in feb
OK as the title says I have a chance to go to Finland in February to do a little off roading in the snow. So the question is, what is the weather/snow like, has anyone been at that time of year?MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

My brother's working there at the moment (He's about 1.5hrs flying time north of Helsinki) and the weather is currently much the same as here, wet, mild and horrible. However last year was bitterly cold and he couldn't wait to get home to the UK every weekend for a warm and away from the snow - they regulary had -15-25 during the day and considerably colder at night for weeks on end, plus he was sick of the sight of snow
Yes, been up as far as Rovaniemi and a tad beyond in Feb, Nippy -30°C with ease, then add the wind chill factor.
Remember to always brush the snow of you shoes prior to getting in your car, the snow is very dry in the low temperatures, however soon turns to water in your car.

Probably similar to here, but depends where abouts in Finland. Would recommend a good set of thermal underwear and a good hat. I've got myself one of these hats and they are really warm. It needs to be at least -5 otherwise my head cooks!!
Good boots, gloves and jacket are also essential. If you don't have them it's worth investing whilst the sales are on

Errr yes but if you use google chrome it will translate it. Or use babelfish.
Since I use chrome it asks automatically if I want to translate from Swahili to Welsh etc

The Scandinavians in general are very proficient in English and very helpful. We have travelled around Scandinavia and have received good advice from the local land rover clubs and are pleased to consider some of the people we have met via the Scandinavian forums as our friends.
Feel free to ask any questions on their forums and I am sure you will get a positive response.
If you know when and where you are going offer to take out any spare parts they may need. Yes they will find it useful also they will be willing to help you as well

winter diesel is different over there.
arrive with a quarter tank and fill up there, otherwise in the morning when its all cold you will not start!
Arctic-grade diesel oil is a fuel designed for temperatures as low as -44°C. This is around ten degrees lower than the frost resistance of normal winter diesel varieties.
Normally arctic-grade diesel fuel is sold at the latitudes of the northern cities of Kemi, Rovaniemi, and Kuusamo.
Still, when the temperature drops down to around -30°C, it pays to switch from the normal winter grade diesel to arctic diesel also in the south of the country, advises Jonne Luomala, assistance manager at the Automobile and Touring Club of Finland.
The recent very cold spell in the south of Finland led to brief shortages as consumers rushed to get their hands on the more robust fuel.
Many were concerned about upcoming holiday trips to the ski resorts of the north, where temperatures have been even colder, down to -40°CIt is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
I think you'll find that was the extreme weather last year. .... Tempuratures are a lot milder this year and last year we had tempuratures like that from around November.

diesel do nicely
cool...rather than cold at the moment then..We have a student who has just come back from Uni over there and she feels here is colder even though it's only about 8°C here (but very damp and nowhere has heating)
