Finally joined the D3 club
I've been lurking on the forum for a while whilst I've been looking around for a V8 D3 - and the forum has been hugely helpful, so thank you all. Today I finally picked one up. 133k with 2 owners and loads of history, it's also been LPG converted already (which is a good saving for me as I planned to do it anyway). All in all I'm very happy so far, just bracing myself for the inevitable problems!
So if anybody wants a 4.4 V8 5 series touring drop me a line

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault

Hi and welcome to the exclusive world of the D3 (V8 petrol owners) club. The V8 definitely makes it a more refined 'Chelsea Tractor' and it does sound good. You have also that '80L reserve tank of petrol' as you'll be running on LPG.
Only down side of the LPG is that you can't use Euro-tunnel, not that that's a big problem, unless you like to take the car to mainland Europe and are used to going by train.

My last two cars have been LPG so I've not been on the tunnel in years! I kinda like the break that the ferry gives me anyway.

Thanks to Pagoda's advice in this thread http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic148647.html I have now changed the PCV and cleaned the MAF and Throttle body. All very straight forward jobs until you drop one of the throttle body bolts down on to the sump guard and have to faff about for 20 mins trying to retrieve it in the dusk...
It's also been to my local landy specialist for a full "proper" MOT and he tells me it's a straight car in reasonable condition for it's age with no major issues (advise on mild corrosion on brake pipes and a small ammount of play in the N/S/F anti roll bar)
Other than oil & filter, air filter what else should I change as a precaution? Plugs were done at 80k (134k now) and I see different suggestions on various online sites as to the recommended interval. I am planning on a transmission flush also. Would it be worth getting the coolant flushed and replaced? It had a new front diff at around 110k but would it be worth getting the oil changed in the rear?
thanks to all those who take the time to post and advise on this site, it has been a huge help to me

Coolant should be changed at 10 years I think? I changed the plastic T piece in the coolant system on the top of the engine on mine when I had it, they get brittle and can lose coolant - this was a common problem in Australia though, not sure if it's an issue in the UK?2011 D4 SDV6 HSE

Thanks Marmoset, exactly where is the T piece you mention? (for the sake of full disclosure I've not been out to have a look on the grounds that I am sat in my dressing gown with a tumbler of Jim Beam so if it's obvious I apologise)
