Fibreglass Heat Shield thing?

Does anyone know how much a replacement one of these costs (the thing that sits between the exhaust and spare wheel)? Smashed mine today when the Handbrake didn't come on or came off and it rolled backwards down a hill into a hedge! Luckily this is the only damage to the vehicle, other damage includes our recently planted hedge and worst of all my pride! Embarassed
It's a strange feeling watching your D3 moving knowing there's no one controlling it!

Ouch! I doubt any breakers put much value in these so if you have one nearby it'll only cost you a few quid I suspect. I got one for nowt Wink
From new, I haven't a clue on price but give TLO a quick PM.

As for hedges and pride, that'll cost you a bit more I suspect Whistle

If you can't find one cheap enough, just rip it off completely Laughing Thumbs Up

Seriously, I suppose it's better to have it there, but I know quite a few people who have removed it completely to be able to fit a spare with bigger tyres Thumbs Up

Cheers for the info tanters, just tried a few breakers yards but none seem to have any D3's, suppose they'll be few and far between!
I'll give TLO a pm and see what he says! It's not completely bust but it doesn't look good and it will bug me!

It's an option! The D3 will hopefully be part ex'd in the next 6 months! I'll see what I can get 1 for! I'm a stickler for things being right!

We refer to this thing as a "heat shield", but it does not seem to be substantial enough for such a task. I wonder if it is really just a crud deflector to stop build-up on and around the spare wheel?

I would like to be able to fit a larger mud tyre into the spare wheel space, but I think what I'm beaten by is not this plastic snow-plough, but the distance between some mechanical components and the rear cross member. Who can relate success stories of doing away with it completely to accept a larger tyre?

What tyre are you looking at fitting under there? Most of the usual suspects fit OK. I have brand new MTR under with no problem although the 17" Cooper STT is a bit tight ISTR Thumbs Up

Over here it's quite common practice to remove it to fit larger M/Ts or 265/65 R18 BFG T/As for example. Any bigger and you'll probably need to deflate the tyre to squeeze it in. Thumbs Up

Maxis Bighorn 265/70R17, as per list on the Wiki as fitting, but I guess that means under the wheel arch.

The difference in diameter between the 265/65R18 that I mentioned (which fit if you remove the heatshield), and the 265/70R18 that you want to fit is 1.1mm with the Maxxis being the larger of the two...

So if the 265/65R18 fit without needing to be deflated, then I reckon you'd be ok with the 265/70 R17 Thumbs Up

Just leave the fairing off. It's only for aesthetics so the stupid exhaust routing looks more palatable from the rear. We all remove it to fit the 275/60/18 - 285/65/18. Save some quid and buy more beer!
