England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Auto Bonatti GreyDiscovery 3

Thanks alot for the info, this is really helpful,.
Like I said before, the whole thing would be a nightmare but the end results would be worth it, I've recently found out that my local radio specialist has said that he will require the whole thing for £200, but suggested that I get a better head unit as the Chinese ones like the one I've brought tend to go wrong faily quick,. So this might be something to consider,.

Harmon Karden kit....

Project New Head unit.....Many people say you can't upgrade a Logik 7. Pah !
Brief run down to update an outdated Disco3 head unit whilst maintaining full capabilities of the Logik7 amp.
The work needed to carry out the mod is not extremely technical but a bit fiddly:

1. Remove old head unit.
2. Strip it down to the MOST interface module (top module fastened ontop of the CD changer)
3. Find somewhere to hide it away from where your gonna fit your new unit (Lower glove box works well)
4. Re-locate the wiring loom from it's old location to the lower glove box. (no wiring mods to do, once it is seperated from the taped-up bunch, it WILL Fit.
5. Fit your new head unit with whatever fixing kit required to fit the hole, connect up everything except the speaker wiring harness. (this is not needed)
6. Connect the FL and FR audio outputs to the AUX input on the old unit. seperate details are available.

The trick is to simply use the AUX input of the old system, this way the old module interfaces your new audio unit into the LogiK 7 system with NO LOSSES. slight volume loss, but hey, turn it up.

There are however certain MINOR changes you will need to adapt to.
You will no longer have access to certain buttons on the old radio to do things like switching modes, resetting the clock readout on the dash once the power is returned, and mostly, no CD player. But in my eyes, who uses CD's now? It's all digital and new head units now are loaded with usb and other formats to play with, so the new head unit is far better than any CD player.

You will still be able to use your mobile, just pair it with your new head unit or simply leave it paired with the landy's old system, it will still be there in the background. The old steering wheel buttons will still function.

The 'mode' needs to be left in AUX mode to listen to your new head unit, but this can be toggled using the steering wheel buttons. RH button in the centre of the joystick type buttons, press and hold 3 seconds switches whatever mode it's in, to AUX mode. Single press from this mode returns to FM mode.
Ignition OFF, the mode will be remembered, so it's possible you may never need to change toggle again.
If, when you connect the LR arial connector directly to your new unit (using a fakra/arial adaptor), you will only be able to use your new unit. But,.....If you purchase a 'Y' connector, it will allow you to connect the cars arial lead to both old and new. This way, your old FM radio mode will still work as well as your new one. Channel scan can still be done using steering wheel buttons!
Simply, you will have a backup if anything goes wrong with your new unit, without needing to re-assemble the old unit.

I will post some photo's of this project in a new post, maybe tomorrow, anyone interested in any help/details, don't hesitate to give me shout.

Anyone near to me is welcome to come see.

Basically,.....IT CAN BE DONE !!
Have fun.
PS Don't blow your car up, it wasn't my fault !!! Rolling with laughter Thumbs Up
Life truly does only come once. Don't waste it. Have a disco !!

Australia 2013 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 HSE Auto Ipanema SandDiscovery 4

Hi Gadget Man,
Project New Head Unit.
I appreciated your post.
I have a '07 D3. No screen. No Sat Nav. No Bluetooth.
I would like to install a Head Unit to bring some contemporary technology to the vehicle.
Did you post the pics of your conversion? I couldn't see them.
Thank you in advance.
Best wishes,
Jeffoir
