Up down up down, I feel sick. Suspension has mind of its own

My D3 HSE has a weird habit of adjusting the suspension all by itself. I’m not sure whether this is normal and intended, or whether there’s a problem.

The suspension adjusts itself when driving occasionally, unprompted by me. Most commonly it’ll happen when I’m stopped at traffic lights or at a junction for a moment or two. The front will randomly raise itself or settle down, almost as if it is trying to self level the car. It can also happen after I get out and lock the car, sometimes a particular corner will go down by a inch or two and then stop.

It seems to happen most when on a slope, not necessarily a steep one but sometimes just a shallow camber in the road.

The 4x4 screen does not show any height difference when this happens oddly, suggesting maybe the sensors are at fault? How can the car drop a few inches on one corner but not show any change on the 4x4 screen?

I think (but I’m not certain) that it is mostly the front drivers side, but sometimes it seems that any corner can do it.

I don’t think there’s a leak or issue with the airbags themselves as the car doesn’t drop if it’s left for a few days. Could the sensors be faulty?

Or do all D3s have this odd quirk? Seems a little unsafe to me!

It shouldn't do anything when stopped at a traffic light. (possibly a strut fault)

However dropping just after you parked it is fairly normal. (

Mine too. I'd read somewhere that this is normal for the car. If it does it a lot, might be worth getting it checked.

Bear in mind as well that even a light driver will weigh in the region of 10 - 12 stone, with the weight concentrated in the front right of the vehicle.
