so.... I read Robbie's excellent guide to how to strip down a FBH and in prep I ordered a few replacements parts from AF.
I replaced the 2 round rings, the main gasket and the main burn unit.

getting the FBH apart was simple enough having done it a few times now.
the fuel 'cup' and surrounding parts were caked in carbon:

gave all the insides a good clean out again:

stuck it all back together and fired it up.

I thought it was all sorted - started with what sounds like all fans firing up for about 3 seconds, then goes quieter, but then sounds like it is getting on with it. I could watch the run time counting down from 30 mins, which was certainly progress.
but then it stopped working.
so I plugged the iiD tool in - thought I should have primed the fuel, so I did that again and ran it via the iiD tool - primed and test ran perfectly.
unfortunately both the iiD and the Altox app then returned error codes.

Odd thing about the Altox app was the it texted through there error codes but then almost straight away texted to say that the 'error codes were: none'.

So I'm back to trying to understand these fault codes:
03 Flame failure
04 Supply voltage too high Check the power supply to the onboard network of the car
06 Heating unit overheated
07 Heating unit interlocked

I presume these two are sensors?
are they replacement units?

again - not sure where to go next.
as ever advice always welcome.....

Get the same codes via text from the Altox if the car wakes up during the burn including the last bit about no faults, ie if I unlock or open door the vehicle can bus system takes over and the Altox assumes an error

Well - I’ve managed to get it to run for the programmed 30 minutes Smile Rolling with laughter

Amazing!!!
Just got to figure out what, if anything, I need to do to ensure the fans run Smile

All working this morning - set it going 30 mins before the school run and had hot air from the fans as soon as I turned them on. very pleased with that!

I've fitted the 'auto fan' module - what do I need to do so that is running hot air into the car in advance of me opening the doors? is it an iiD activation or similar?
or a certain code I need to text to the car perhaps?

Also realised that error codes W7,3,6 simply refer to the cycle being interrupted - unlocking the car and opening the doors.
Very Happy

The fan module is turned on by the FBH controller, you need to send a text to the controller with a temperature setting for it to start, once done it does it automatically every time, on phone at minute I have the settings document on my pc I'll have a look later

It’s working really well - perfectly timed for the current cold weather.
But....
A 30 or 40 minute operation of the FBH kills the battery to the point I can’t start the car.
Quick jump start from the another battery and it fires right up and cranks strongly for the rest of the time.

Feels like the battery is in good shape other than after the FBH has been working.
I presume this can’t be right, so does it suggest the battery is in the way out?

It’s going to make me finish connecting up the split charge system which has been 1 wire not connected for ages Smile
