my FBH experience

I thought this might be helpful to some of us.

I noticed my FBH was not firing up anymore:
- no more smoke from the wheel/bonnet
- slow heating of the cabin
- engine temperature low, even when cruising on the highway

What probably happened was this:
- till end of november, temperatures were quite high here: 5to10°C
- beginning of december, it started to be like siberia with temperatures below -10°C
- fuel stations are obliged to add winter additives from december 1st.
- summer diesel takes temperatures up to -10°C below that it freezes
- in my car was summer diesel when the FBH was activated last time in November.
- I took winter diesel but it didn't find it's way to the FBH since temperatures were high and the FBH wasn't activated. In the FBH and the tubes toward it remained summer diesel.
- I traveled to the airport where I left the car for four days.
- during these four days, temperatures dropped well below -10°C
- when I came back, in the parking garage, temperature was -12°C
- on the way home, temperature dropped till -18°C
the summer fuel in the FBH and the tubes was frozen or the parafine started to settle

- The FBH is blocked when it doesn't fire up for 3 consequent times. Probably this happened to me; 1) at the airport, 2) at a petrol station for a sanitary stop, 3) at home when putting the car into the garage after unloading. Then, the night in the garage at +/- 0°C didn't help anymore to start the FBH on the summer diesel that melted again: the FBH was locked.

The solution:
- Is NOT taking out the fuse out for at least 10 minutes. It is mentioned here on the forum as the solution offered by LR. There are as well posts on the forum that mention that this method does not work.
- I read that LR dealers redirect you to a webasto service point right away. Since my LR service is two hours away, I didn't even contact them.
- I looked on the webasto web site for a service point. For cars, their service point was still quite far away but when I searched for Webasto truck solutions, I found a service nearby.
- I had to convince them that it was at least worth a try: they said they probably couldn't do anything on factory mounted heaters and that I should contact LR. However, I managed to convince them to give it a try.
- after half an hour, the FBH was heating again.

With a little understanding
Some people get by
With a whole lot more
I dont know
Why you gotta be so undemanding
