FBH error 88h fuel pump

Hi guys,

I’m fairly new to the Disco 3 and having finally got my hands on a 2008/58 Stornaway Grey D3, I’ve discovered the FBH doesn’t work. This seems to be a standard feature!

I borrowed a diagnostic loom and using the Webasto 2.14 software I discovered a fault code of 88h - fuel pump fault.

Can anyone help me find out how to rectify this please?

Many thanks,

Jonathan

The fuel pump is under the car on the cross member of the gearbox, its more to the drivers side and sits on top of the cross member.
Not much you can do apart from change it. When the fbh is running you can hear it clicking away from under the car, its a pulse pump.

So do you think it's a straight forward thing to just swap that out, prime the heater and then clear the faults?

Very straight forward, i did one the other week. Can you get it to run at all or is it totally failed? Think i might have a used one kicking about somewhere if you wanted to try it, its not the best pump which is why i replaced it but it should get the unit running.

It doesn't run at all.

Thanks for the offer of the pump, but I have a friend who is willing to sell me a new pump. So I might take him up on that offer.

Can you tell me how I go about changing it please?

Have you checked it’s actually getting power?

Mine had the same fault showing along with a failed to start but I ran a prime cycle on IID tool, cleared faults and it’s been running right ever since

Drive front wheels up on ramps.
Remove rear plastic undertray from gearbox.
Find pump on top of cross member in front of fuel tank.
Remove bolt securing pump with 10mm spanner.
Disconnect electrical connector.
Disconnect fuel pipes from both ends of pump.
Swap mounting bracket from old pump to new pump.
Reconnect fuel pipes and electrical connector on new pump.
Secure pump back onto crossmember with bolt.
Use wtt software to bleed system, I flick the fuel lines and pump while i do this to help remove any trapped air.
Fire up heater and check for correct operation and any fuel leaks.
Replace plastic undertray.

Your more than welcome to come here and do it in my workshop if you feel you need a hand.

Hi,

I tried a prime cycle using the Webasto software and there's no ticking of the pump. It just throws an error.

Hi Pete,

Well that sounds pretty achievable!

I'm new to the Disco 3, so wasn't sure how complex it was. Sounds fairly straight forward.

Thanks for the offer. Not sure when I'm going to be able to do it as the weather is set very cold for the next few days (perfect to FBH diagnostics but not for lying on your back!).

And yes very straight forward, the hardest bit is getting the wtt interface to work, if you can do that bit you can do the rest easily.

I bought a used one from a Jaguar XK that uses the same fuel pump as a Land Rover. I think they are located in a better place on a jag as it looked new compared to mine that I removed. Ebays your best bet, they also have new Webasto branded ones if you want to go down the new route. It’s a DP40 pump you will need, it will be stamped with the number 9002854 on the black plastic part of the pump. They are a silly price new and even worse from Land Rover Shocked

Pete,

Thanks for the info on the pump, I've had a quick butchers on the bay of E but only DP41 pumps available atm.

Might just have to leave this until next winter 🤔
