FBH Disconnected.

Hi all,
Not been on for a while, I dare not say why incase I jinx it Wink
Anyway, when working on the car in the summer we noticed that the FBH was completely disconnected. We didn't do anything about it as it was summer.
Now it's cold and she's so lumpy and clunky in the mornings. I leave her running for 5 mins idling before I leave, but it's not enough.I need to get it connected and (hopefully) working really.
Does this little symbol on it mean anything before it's plugged back together.
Thanks!

Hi all, thought I would reply on my old post as it is FBH related.
So, I ran the car last winter without the FBH as didn't know about it... Have re connected it as it had been disconnected when I bought it. Now, how much should this smoke, it's at embarrassing levels of smoking people out, when I'm queing out of the village on the school run it's particularly awkward. It's also very leaky/drippy. (3 lovely strangers have also told me that my car might be on fire 😬 😁) then another chap told me my glowplugs are knackered.
Is it imperative to use this heater?
I've tried to upload some pics

It will smoke a little on startup but should clear quickly.

Is that diesel on the floor? If so then the leak needs addressing as that isn't right, and could be a fire risk

Hi,

The point of the FBH is to get the engine temp up asap if its not working it can be using more fuel and the engine is not running efficiently it really wants to be working, it can be serviced have a look in the wiki,
the mark could have been put on if it was a replacement/used FBH from a breakers Question

if its always smoking, at least its running but does suggest a strip down and clean service is worth doing
(and any fuel leak NEEDs sorting )

when they are working correctly most peeps dont even know they are running

Thumbs Up

It is yes, smells like paraffin when burning but dripping diesel. I've disconnected it until it can be removed and looked at (buttering up husband) it kicks smoke out even after driving 30 miles and engine is toasty. Then a good smoke for about 2 mins or so when engine is off.

Hiya

Hope this finds u well,

Ref the diesel just in case u wasn’t aware but there’s a fuel pipe connector for the FBH tucked away behind the passenger side plastic wheel arch liner , fuel line is plastic one side , metal the other

Wished to mention it just in case it’s leaking from there as it was on mine

Hope that also helps and u get it sorted out

Apologises , plse ignore the ratchet , lol, can see the connector on the right hand side

The FBH will kick in and out as required. Even if the temp gauge shows normal, the FBH can be used to augment the engine temperature. These engines are (apparently!) efficient, so run quite cold, which is not good for combustion, so the FBH will add heat when required.
It's not ideal to have them disconnected of running badly.
I changed mine recently for a new one, which I'd had in stock for more than 10 years!
