Faulty Flywheel - Official TSB or reconised issue? (Manual)

OK, we need new flywheel and hence clutch at 38K and 4 years because the flywheel has a manufacturing defect and excessive movement (resulting in clutch slipping).

£1300 please sir says the dealer, although LR may help, but I am wondering why I am having to pay anything for a fault that started in warranty and is caused my a manufacturing defect.

Can anyone confirm if there is an official TSB/Recall for faulty flywheels? I know its a very common problem on the D3, does LR have their head in the sand like they do with the EPB?

my clutch and flywheel were replaced on my old manual D3 (55 plate) under wrrenty, at no cost at all to me. I'm fairly sure there was a TSB out for it. I'd guess that it covers a range of VIN numbers, so you might need to find out if yours is in that VIN range.

Might be worth dropping a PM to TLO (thelargeone) to ask if he'd mind telling you

I think the TSB may be outside the range of our VIN, I did find a load of stuff on the website but that was more to do with thrust bearings.

We have a faulty flywheel that's been moving, which explains bogging down on pull away etc we have had since we bought it two years ago maybe. Need to look into the definition of "fit for purpose" I suppose.

EDIT: Ok here is TSB:

TSB 308-001

A customer may report a concern of one or more of the following symptoms:

This bulletin has been re-issued to include a closing VIN.

Strong odors from under vehicle when, or after, a slow speed maneuver (e.g. difficult parking maneuver), especially when on gradients.
Clutch slip.
The clutch pedal has stuck in the downward position or not releasing fully.
Difficulty in engaging gears.

Cause: The clutch drive plate lining material is not tolerant to high heat inputs caused by slipping, becomes soft and is then damaged beyond recovery even when it has cooled.
Action: Should a customer express concern regarding the above, refer to the Service Procedure detailed in this bulletin to renew the clutch assembly.

Manual transmission vehicles only VIN-range: 5A300394-7A422271

Does it have a mileage limit? Mine is on 82K with those symptoms! It's having a new clutch tomorrow at an Indy, shall I tell him to wait?!

Your a long way out of warrenty, don't fancy your chances much of getting anything from LR!

Maybe we need a poll, sounds like a widespread problem then?
