Faults?! - I've got 'em

Some help please. What do you do with you Sunday afternoons? Today I cleaned the inside of the beast! However, when i'd finished i tried to reposition the car on the drive, without success!

On trying to restart the D3, i got the "park break fault" on key position 2, followed by "system fault, special programme not available" so i tried to start the thing. Serious ticking, no firing so i stopped.

Got out locked it, left it, went back, tried again, got the above two faults followed by a "transmission fault, traction reduced" and then the serious ticking on turnover again.

I was listening to the radio, all doors open, with the key in position 1 for 30 mins while i hoovered. When it started raining, i closed all doors but the tail gate. And played with the rear seat audio controls.

Have a i got a short, blown a fuse?, engine management is problem!?. Is there a reset?

Thanks
D

This is what I had though when I came back from Salisbury, all those faults but it still started, and turned out to be a Hub Sensor

I hope it is only the battery. It's now on charge! Fingers crossed but i'd be surprised if it is.

Is there anything to stop me jumping it? Will i blow up the EM properly?

Thanks so far.

Sounds like your battery. Although I would think it would last longer than that! May be worth getting it tested Thumbs Up

Guernsey is a pretty small island. Probably not doing long enough runs to keep the battery charged. You may need to supplement with a battery charger.

Thanks to all
Battery now had overnight charge and is a-ok. Albeit memories gone!
I'd considered ave. trip length etc and battery issues but thought it would last longer.
Also interior lights didn't dim, radio worked etc so no signs of a flat batt.
I guess these modern cars aren't built like they used to be!!
Thanks again
D
PS - anybody know where the crank handle fits?? Shocked

When i used to cycle to school on Guernsey in the early eighties when we lived there, even the chain oil didn't get up to temperature on the run to and from school (L'Islet to Capelles), so i would be surprised if the battery got anything like a decent charge at any point.

If you wan't to get some longer runs in the D3 in, i will happily swap places with you...providing you keep paying any mortgage on a property on Guernsey. Shocked Shocked

Still got lots of friends over there, and visit the island as often as i can, you are very fortunate to live somewhere so beautiful and with a fantastic quality of life Thumbs Up

Battery Voltages are much more critical on modern cars with ECU systems. Recenty brought my kids a Pug 206, and we had a few issues with this not wanting to start, caused by the BSi unit resetting. This would occur as the battery voltage got pulled down by the starting load, causing the BSi to think the battery had been disconnected. One new battery (OK, only £29 for the little pug) later, all now seems OK.

Wasn't entirely flat then but too little power to run starter engine. These things take quite a but of current so I'll be the first thing to fail whilst interior lights only take a little. Also, in daylight, you wouldn't notice if they were a bit faint.

Wiljo
