How much water got in?

Hi Carver, many thanks for the reply....plenty unfortunately, yes I suppose the park brake switch would also have got a fair share. Strange though no issues with the park brake, just no command shift - any idea what controls the shift mode? The PND display seems not to be too happy, could this have an effect, or is their another electronic gizmo that could have died?

Could it be water ingress into the connectors below the gear selector?

Hi Rocko, thanks for that, stripped all the panels and blew out and dried all the connectors - there were a couple of other faults, those were sorted after doing that. Only gripe now is the command shift, that's why I was wondering what controlled the switching from normal drive to sport mode?

All of the change signals (i.e. Auto->Sport/Manual and also + and - whilst in Manual mode) are done via hall-effect sensors within the change lever assembly (the big box screwed to the top of the transmission tunnel and with the gear selector lever sticking out the top.
Maybe some water has gotten in there too? Not sure if you can open it up, but if you can I would try and blow that through as well. 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Thanks Paul... was fearing that. Well hoepfully if I can i.d. the fault code it could give me the answer. Do you know if there is a fuse maybe that protects this that could have popped?

I don't think there is, but if you managed to get water onto the PCB and connectors under the gear selector trim panel, then you can pretty much guarantee that it has got into the selector housing too.
If this much water got into this area, how is the rest of the car? It must be soaked though 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Luckily had good seat covers on, they had about three litres of water in each, with pretty much no ingress into the seats. If only there was a warning buzzer for the sun roof

I would take the centre console out and give it all a good dry. Pull up the gear lever and undo the screw below the handbrake lever, then just pulll up. Hopefully no permanent damage. I would leave a blow heater on in the vehicle with the windows cracked open (and the sunroof closed ) to make sure it doesn't get musty. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thanks Carver, will give it a go....happened about a week ago, so not sure there would still be water around, but probably a good idea to pull all the covers off and check. Hope like hell it's not the selector switched in the housing.

Hi guys, had a similar fault and replaced the gear lever assembly and sorted the jammed in park problem. Still other issues and found the transfer box control unit plug badly corroded. Replace and configured and only fault now is P2081C. Park input circuit. Still battling to rectify this .Regards Grunty.
