How far do you take your high mileage Disco’s

Afternoon all,

Just a general Sunday afternoon chat really.

I’ve recently bought a ‘high’ (to me) mileage Disco 3. It’s just about to tick 200,000. It doesn’t use any oil/water, it doesn’t smoke or anything - it genuinely drives like a dream. I’ve even covered 1,200 miles in 2 weeks with it already.

However... because it’s 13 years old and the highest mileage vehicle I’ve ever bought. I do wonder if it’s a vehicle I’d take to Europe etc .

I’m just curious really after seeing a load of European Alps/Pyrenees off roading trip videos from UK drivers. What kind of mileage is on your Disco’s that you comfortably take abroad?

I often find myself pausing videos and MOT checking the vehicles in the videos to see what mileage they’re on Laughing

Gez.

Thats still classed as low mileage Thumbs Up

If you use the search function theres a list of milages. I think 750k is the highest so far.

The key to keeping these going is regular maintenance with god quality parts.
Also watch out for rust, have a look under the sill covers especially if you have steps and behind the rear wheel arch liners it all comes apart very easy with just basic tools.
The chassis can get quite rusty but its usually just surface rust that looks worse than it is.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the mileage so long as it’s running well, ours has done 167k we went to France last year, fifteen hundred mile round trip never missed a beat. Think of it more like it just has to do another 2k, so long as it gets you back that’s all I want.

Take regular trips (Three times a year) from North Wales to the Aude region of France with our Disco 3, 2008 with currently over 172K on the clock. Last trip from September to November 2019. we towed the Twin axle caravan which weighs in at over 1.5 tons from close to Limoges down to Alicante in Spain without it missing a beat.Did just under 5K that trip and gave it a good service on our return.
Only problems I have encountered have been (a) Offside rear brake caliper seized causing the disc to be scored a couple of years ago-both discs replaced + pads and calipers stripped and new pistons etc fitted in France. (b) Transmission and EAS faults caused by leaving the sunroof open and centre floor console had water ingress due to a freak, unexpected rainstorm-DIY job by removing console upper trim, mopping up and drying waterlogged connectors with a hair dryer. Luckily the car could be driven in Limp mode. (c) Fuel flap would not open, resorted to brute force and used car without it until we returned to the UK and the actuator was replaced.
As others have said, ensure the car is well serviced and checked, if the car has done over 100K change the Autobox filter, flush and refill.

Love hearing these kinds of stories, keep them coming Cool

Im waiting for a delivery tomorrow from Advanced Factors for every oil and filter imaginable for the Disco.

Engine/diffs/transfer box and gearbox along with all the filters - peace of mind that they are definitely done then.

192,000 on our D3. It’s regularly doing 400 mile trips in a weekend. Long trips seem to be what it likes best.

That's what a diesel loves,as opposed to shopping trips.....better fuel consumption and a cleaner running engine. I always change the oil & filter every 5000 and the air filter every 10000.

I don't think twice about the mileage when going on any trips.

Mine is a MY12 with 162,000, I've done 100k over 3.5 years, we've been to the Alps a few times, Brittaney, Germany, as well as the far reaches of the UK, It does all of our weekend family driving as well as my wifes work stuff.

It's maintained well by me, but it did have all the common issues 2 years ago before the warranty ran out, in the space of a year it had.
> New Compressor, Warraty
> Both Intake manifolds, Warranty
> New EPB, Warranty
> Front Lower Arms (I did those)
> Rear Upper Arms (I did those)
> Header Tank, Warranty
> Belts at the right mileage
> Service between every 10-16K by an Indy during warranty, then by me.

I'll keep running how I am with the right breakdown cover etc.

I guess the issue you'll have is whether its worth repatriating from France, if it's not worth is, then they may refuse, which I believe has happened to a few forum members..
