Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, having taken delivery of a TDV6 SE today. I like it alot, apart from the fact that there is a loud "Whooshing" sound from the engine. It's there all the time, and gets louder and higher pitched with engine revs, irrespective of road speed or gear selection.
Having had the bonnet up, I'm almost certain its the fan. I've read other threads on here about the nature of the viscous coupling, casuing this whooshing for the first few seconds after starting. Mine does it all the time.
So - my diagnosis is a fan that's too viscous. Has anyone else had this trouble. I'm taking it back to LR, but would appreciate any input!
Thanks

Not heard of anyone else with a permanent 'roar', sounds like a trip to your dealer is in order for a new fan. The End

Mine does it in the low gear selection but once you get to 3rd gear it is not noticable.
If you sit and rev the engine then it will make a whooshing sound as the fan is trying to grab more air, once on the move it does not have to work as hard.

Yes sounds like the viscous coupling is stuck, not seen a D3 do it, but my dads Jag did and it made a hell of a racket. It sapped a lot of power too.

The viscous fan is more 'active' when the aircon is working hard (on mine, anyway).... try it with the aircon off to see if it makes a difference

I actually think the sound of the fan is great....I get disappointed when it goes off 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

LR have looked at it, and said "It shouldn't make that noise" so - new viscous (or should that be vicious) coupling on order.
