Factory privacy glass – fitting cost?

Hi all

I've checked a few threads about this, but couldn't find out how much people pay. Most people seem to go with simple tints.

My main reason for getting the D3 was to fit my dog in the back. I really want the rear windows tinted, but have read dogs can scratch the tints.

I prefer the factory fitted / OEM+ look anyway, so how much would it be to get factory tinted glass on the rear?

Guessing I could get any tinted glass from a scrappy, then get a windscreen place to fit it?

Anybody have any experience with this, and if so how much did it cost you?

Ball park figure £50 per window by a professional, dogs can scratch it if they really tried, but not if they are kept in a cage Whistle after market is very hard material and often comes with a scratch proof warranty.
Examine the glass before having it done, any blemishes, chips or scratches are magnified by after market tint. Do not attempt diy it is one job for professionals.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

You can get pre-cut tints.. not too difficult to apply yourself as long as you clean the window well and use lots of soapy water etc.. squeegee out the excess, allow them 24hours to dry.. and the job is a good un! Thumbs Up

I've done this.

Picked up a 2nd hand upper tailgate with factory tinted glass. Be careful as some don't have additional antennas connections. The 2nd hand glass one didn't so I was going to sell it on but kept it, to do this swap and accept poorer radio reception. Not a big deal for me.

I looked at scrappies/ ebay for complete tail gate in same colour but couldn't find any.

A mobile windscreen chap came and did mine cost £150 but that included doing the two side bonded screens in the boot (removing existing and refit 2nd hand factory tinted glass) and of course removing my clear rear glass, removing tinted glass from donor tailgate and refitted back on to mine.

Happy with results, no leaks and definitely leave for pros to do.

Nice one, that's exactly what I was after. Looks like I'll be off to the scrappy.

Do you know how to tell if there's an aerial connection on the tailgate? Sorry, I'm a bit of a n00b!
