Extra Boot Lights

I have been scrambling around in the boot trying to find stuff now it always seems to be dark, and it got me thinking - why wont 3rd row reading lights also come on when the boot is opened?

Has anyone done this mod? Its a right PITA to keep turning them on and off.

You just need an LED panel light instead - ours is really bright from hids4u

like this and then stick on outside on current light with 3m sticky pads

Is this the same for the D3, do I need to swap the polarity of the lights?

probably.

Tip: You could be lazy and just modify one side. Should be enough light ?

I had the same problem. Replaced rear light with an LED one but my boot divider obscured the light. Some cheap LED bars from eBay just spliced into the rear light wiring has done the trick perfectly. Cost less than £5 and took 15mins.

I fitted a pivoting LED light bar some time back - it's wired into my aux battery fuse board and is separately switched.

It gives excellent illumination into and outside the boot area - ideal if you're loading gear at night or changing out of muddy kit etc (I go sea fishing & hill walking).

Think there's pictures in my gallery and maybe a post somewhere detailing it.

On Monday fitted bulb as per link below into both centre boot light and middle row centre light, so both are illuminated when open doors. Is straight and simple swap for oem filememt bulb, and 5 min job to swap both. Made massive difference. Can actually see in entire boot area in dark now Smile

If you have patience and a suitable "mouse" tool you could pop out all three lights and run a single wire from the centre light to each of the side ones. The additional feature is that either side switch puts on all three lights. You just have to remember which one so that you can put it off again!

I have LED in all lights. The problem is I have a DVD player so my middle row light is not that bright even with LEDs in that.

What spec led’s do you have, I swapped out Philips hi spec 6k led bulbs for the cree units in link above. New units much brighter than Philips. Took photo just now ...
