Just had a quote from WW just under £1k for the year but they only pay out a max £5k so that won’t cover crank failure, will be sticking with LR extended warranty, already had a new transfer box and it’s going in for new wheel bearings and reversing sensor fault so will h a good will gesture if the dreaded happens I’ll take my chances

Well ... after much negotiation and getting Motor Easy to (eventually) adding to the policy schedule ... ‘In the event of crankshaft failure Motor Easy would NOT regard this to be an inherent and known manufacturing defect’
Probably doesn't mean a lot to be fair .... but at least it's better than nothing. Have to say though there is nothing in their policy documents about known manufacturing defects. Still - if it all goes 'tits up' at least something I can take to the 'Motor Ombudsmen / Trading Standards / Credit Card' - maybe?

I had “pre arranged” a 3 year warranty with warranty direct to start after my extended warranty runs out in January and paid a £25 deposit.
I phoned today to ask if they would still honour the warranty, it was a nice surprise when they said yes. Have now paid in full to make sure.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Interesting - maybe because my warranty with WD isn't due to expire until July they aren't committing themselves that far forward?
Anyway - my warranty with Motor Easy (ME) is due to start in July - deposit paid but not agreed to T&C yet as there are too many errors on my policy schedule (service dates and such like). Mind you I found this with WD as well and just ignored them all in the end and went with the flow... Seems I may have to do likewise with ME :-}2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

But it does seem to pay out more often than ME or WW apart from the main reason.
If WD had not honoured my pre arranged warranty then I think I would have gone LR, I wouldn’t touch WW with a barge pole after previous bad experiences and ME don’t get a lot of good press for paying outJoined the BMWX5 45e group

Since July 2013 WD has been owned by BNP Paribas Assurance, through a UK subsidiary Cardiff Pinnacle.
They stopped accepting new business in December; I wonder whether this is Brexit related, and they will again accept new business in a few months time?
I haven't researched what BNP Paribas paid for the business, but surely it's unlikely that they would write off their investment in most of the business after only 7 years time; I believe that they still offer GAP insurance.

Not a frequent poster, but have made good use of the forum over the years.
I decided to research an extended warranty for my car so came straight to the forum and found this thread.
Because of all the comments I went on the Motoreasy website and obtained a quote, and subsequently haggled the price down a bit, but wanted to check the documentation before buying.
Having worked in insurance for 35 years I was flabbergasted by what I found. I know there has been mention of this being a discretionary policy but didn't really understand the term. It turns out that it describes the policy exactly - it is completely at the discretion of Motoreasy whether they want to pay any claim whatsoever!! And because it is not FCA regulated (as Swansty pointed out) there is absolutely no recourse to anyone if you disagree with a decision.
Because this is not an insurance product, I assume claims are made out of premiums received. What happens if the premiums dry up? A proper insurance company is required to make provisions for claims but this is completely unregulated! If an insurance company goes bust you are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme but here there is no protection.
James W mentioned a problem with a WD claim and that the FCA were a "toothless tiger". Believe me they are not! But they do not have the power to enforce the payment of a specific claim - this is down to the Financial Ombudsman Service who can require an insurer to pay a claim. FOS however will have no jurisdiction over a Motoreasy policy.
Getting more technical, I believe the reason this policy isn't insurance is that for it to be insurance there must be a transfer of risk. Because of its discretionary nature policy holders are not actually removing any risk from themselves just paying a premium and hoping for the best!
I am not saying that Motoreasy won't pay any claims, because they obviously currently do, but personally I would stick with an insured product with all the safeguards.

You'll get different experiences from different people here.
Warranty Direct tried to con me years ago, ended up with ombudsman as they didn't realise I had a tape recording of their conversation with the dealer. Will say no more here.
Motoreasy have been fine with paying out with me since, but their admin isn't very slick, you have to do some of the running around and you need to be firm in where you want the work done as they just seem to pick a random garage. But you do get a very 1-2-1 service with the 'handler' - you just need to do the booking, paying, etc. I'm fine with that. ME were a lot cheaper than WD for the same product. ME was allegedly started by an ex-senior exec of WD who left as he wanted to maintain the original ethos of the product. I had in writing that they would cover the crankshaft. They waived the health check for me as I had a MOT passed within the last month or so, plus a full service done in similar time frame.
I would be wary of any insurance product. FWIW, I wish I had never started with a warranty and banked it instead. I'd be able to double my deposit on my next vehicle now. Once started, do you ever feel brave enough to pull the plug?D4 XS, gone, much loved, never forgotten
